Position Summary: Instructor of Physics at the Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University The Wilkes Honors College (WHC) of Florida Atlantic University (FAU) invites applications for a full-time (9-month) Instructor of Physics position beginning Fall 2023. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Physics, coordinate Physics labs, supervise honors theses, advise undergraduate students, and provide service to the College and/or University. They will also have the opportunity to shape the Physics curriculum, co-develop multidisciplinary courses with faculty from across the liberal arts and sciences. The WHC (www.honorscollege.edu) is a selective liberal arts and sciences college within a large state university, located on FAU’s MacArthur Campus in the coastal town of Jupiter, Florida. The campus is an international hub for scientific research and is host to the Max Planck Florida Institute, UF Scripps Biomedical Research, and FAU’s own Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute. The WHC’s four-year curriculum is centered on the traditional disciplines in the liberal arts and sciences, with an emphasis on critical thinking, independent study, community-based internships, and interdisciplinary programs. The WHC is in a period of rapid growth, with 649 honors students and 47 full-time honors faculty members. Minimum Qualifications: The minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. in Physics, or a B.Sc. in Physics and a Ph.D. in a closely related field (e.g., Engineering, Physics Education, Astronomy), and evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching. The committee is especially interested in applicants with some or all of the following qualifications: ability to contribute to specialized as well as core courses, ability to foster and create educational opportunities where all student populations thrive, experience mentoring undergraduate research, interest in collaborating across disciplines through research or teaching, and experience with data acquisition and analysis.
