What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Director Fraternity & Sorority Life position at Florida International University?
The Associate Director Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) provides leadership to the FSL office and is charged with oversight of risk reduction education and assessment to enhance the fraternity and sorority life experience for our chapters and councils. This position is responsible for developing programs, services, and resources to monitor individual students and student groups. Assists the Director in overall management of the fraternity/sorority system. Supervises the Senior Coordinator of Risk Prevention & Compliance for Fraternity & Sorority Life. Assumes leadership in the Director's absence and leading department-wide projects.
- Provides direct supervision to the Senior Coordinator of Risk Prevention & Compliance for Fraternity & Sorority Life who will provide direct advisement to our governing councils and coordinate data for the Hazing audit for prevention component.
- Supports and advises 2-3 specific governing councils advising them on fiscal management, academic excellence, event planning, programming, and recruitment.
- Develops, manages, and supports educational programs related to leadership development, risk management, peer and group accountability and values congruence programming through the development and evaluation of learning outcomes and assessment processes.
- Coordinates and plans on-going training and education related to topics on risk reduction, leadership development, health and well-being, and diversity, equity, and inclusion for student organization leaders, members, and advisors.
- Serves as lead in collaborating with Fraternity & Sorority Life staff on office programming, including but not limited to Week of Welcome, Hazing Prevention, New Member Education, Officer Training, and other relevant educational programs.
- Serves as the liaison for various committees, organizations and chapter advisors of portfolios regarding chapter operations, university policies and other relevant issues.
- Oversees formal recruitment and in-take practices of all councils.

- Meets and advises student leaders to assist them in maximizing and interpreting their chapter's potential for operational success and compliance with university and department expectations.
- Interprets a wide array of university policies and procedures or students, student leaders, council executive board members, chapter advisors, alumni, national organization officers, and parents.
- Documents chapter progress and provides regular updates to the Fraternity and Sorority Life Staff.
- Serves as a University card user for departmental transactions.
- Adheres to University credit card policies and procedures. Handles cash transactions as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in related discipline and four (4) years' experience in associated discipline with experience in a management role having significant business impact.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge or experience with fraternity and sorority life including advising, learning, or development.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and execution of small, mid, and large scale programming.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Experience preparing and/or managing budgets.
- Student Conduct experience.
