The Knight Foundation School of Computing and Info. Sciences is currently seeking Undergraduate Teaching Assistant to join their team of professionals.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistants are assigned to classes and labs to work with students alongside the primary instructor. Duties to include:

  • Completing a required UTA online training course and orientation
  • Meeting weekly (or as directed) with the assigned course’s professor
  • Attending lectures twice a week with the professor to facilitate active learning,
  • Facilitating labs to ensure students complete assigned weekly labs in the lab setting immediately after the lecture
  • Holding office hours
  • Writing study guides, notes, practice problems
  • Leading review/study sessions
  • Facilitating class projects
  • Assisting in proctoring quizzes and exams
  • Assisting in grading assessments within a specific time frame and rubric given by the professor
  • Working 15 hours per week in total
  • Keeping open communications with the course’s professor via emails, chats, and other means.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistants must be eligible to work in the United States, are limited to fifteen hours per week, must maintain a minimum 2.5 overall GPA,

and must be qualified to grade for the specific course they are assigned. A student is presumed to be qualified to grade an introductory (2000 level or lower) course

if they have passed the succeeding course with a grade of “B” or higher, or upper-level (3000 level or higher) course if they have passed the corresponding course with a grade of B or higher.

Selection as an undergraduate teaching assistant requires an interview with school personnel(s).


Minimum Qualifications


Requires prior completion of FIU Service Excellence training or completion within first 30 days.
Knowledge of classroom subject.
Customer service knowledge
Basic level of Microsoft Office Suites.
Ability to work independently as needed
Ability to provide direction to students.
Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.

$700.00 to $5000.00 total gross per semester (paid in biweekly increments)
