Accountant III (Grade 8)
Div/Dept: Finance/Accounting FLSA Status: Exempt
General Definition of Work
Performs difficult advanced technical and analytical work preparing and maintaining fiscal or related records, financial statements for the Agency’s and its associated projects, to include operating expense allocation, project billings as well as assist the Controller in accounting functions, general ledger, fixed assets and tax revenues, entering, verifying and checking data, processing budget and other financial accounts, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Controller.

Essential Functions
- Researches, analyzes and prepares white papers recommending implementation on new accounting standards or addressing accounting issues, for FMPA implementation.
- Prepares accounting documents for inclusion in monthly and annually published financials; conducts budget to actual variance analysis and allocates costs in preparation of financial statements.
- Creates complex journal entries as needed.
- Assists other accounting staff.
- Coordinates documents and responses for external audit, other audits or inquiries and memorandums/reports.
- Prepares and/or reviews all FMPA project and miscellaneous billing invoices for accuracy; identifies missing, misclassified, and erroneous data.
- Reconciles fixed assets, inventory, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other accounts as assigned; researches and resolves variances; reports to management as required.
- Prepares other analyses as required to support Agency initiatives, board presentations and/or respond to FMPA member requests.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; and best practices; thorough knowledge of standard office and department specific software; ability to understand and apply governmental accounting practices and maintenance of financial records; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public; ability to communicate information clearly and succinctly through both written and oral means; ability to adapt communications as appropriate to fit the audience and situation.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Master’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration or a CPA license. A minimum of 7 years of accounting experience. Advanced Microsoft Excel user.
Physical Requirements
This work is sedentary and requires little to no exertion of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing
and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking,
reaching with hands and arms and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for
expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal
spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in
sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects
and/or small parts and observing general surroundings and activities; work is generally in a moderately noisy location
(e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
Certified Public Accountant/other relevant certification or Master’s Degree required
