Overview
Under the direction of the Business Law Department Operating Officer, Transactions Practice Group Chairs and Business Law Department Chair, the KM Attorney supports the Firm’s Business Law Department specifically focusing efforts on the Transactions Practice Group in developing, implementing and maintaining Practice Group KM and technology resources, to increase efficiencies and optimize client service delivery.
This position collaborates across multiple departments, including Research Services, Marketing and Business Development, Technology, Finance and other various administrative and operational teams, to successfully execute process, technology and knowledge management initiatives.
Responsibilities
Create, develop and maintain model documents, forms, drafting guidance and practice group resource material for the Transactions Practice Group.
Ensure Practice Group precedents and resource materials are up-to-date and readily accessible on the Firm’s intranet and other content sharing platforms. Organize and curate intranet site to promote and make accessible the highest value content, and facilitate knowledge reuse.
Serve as a source of legal, market and practical expertise; regularly review internal and publicly available transaction agreements and market studies to identify market trends; keep current on relevant case law and statutes; respond timely to queries; inform the Practice Group of substantive legal developments via internal communications and memoranda and Practice Group training sessions
Assist practitioners in locating practice-related internal and external knowledge resources and technologies as well as tailoring KM resources for specific client needs.
Develop workflows leveraging Practice Group resources and technologies to promote efficiency in common matter types.
Provide ongoing individual and group lawyer and staff training on KM tools, resources and best practices.
Evaluate new and innovative workflow, technology, KM and research tools and resources based on Practice Group needs; participate in technology pilots and assessments.
Qualifications
Candidates must have strong writing abilities, including technical contract, drafting skills, the ability to communicate clearly, and excellent research skills.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with Department and firm personnel, management, other attorneys and staff.
Excellent organizational, planning and project management skills including record keeping, data collection and system information. Highly motivated with a strategic focus and ability to understand and support Firm goals, services, culture and strategy. Understands and stays up to date on current legal market trends, news, and innovations.
Exhibit high degree of initiative in managing multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, detail-oriented work environment.
Dependable team player with high energy, creativity and vision who works collaboratively and cooperatively with others in a team-oriented environment.
Experience
Candidates must have a J.D., be admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction in the United States and have no less than 5 years of relevant practice experience, including experience working in a large law firm.
Prior experience in Private Equity/M&A is highly desirable but not required.
Computer proficient with strong understanding in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint and other various legal search engines and online research tools.
