What are the responsibilities and job description for the DSD Receiving Clerk position at Food City?

The primary responsibility of the DSD receiving clerk is the accurate checking in of, and then entry into the direct store delivery (DSD) computer all store DSD vendor deliveries; as well as the maintenance and organization of the warehouse receiving area of the grocery store.

Some Job Responsibilities include:

  • The DSD receiving clerk has the primary responsibility of efficiently and accurately checking in all grocery vendor deliveries, but also meat, produce, bakery, deli and liquor vendors..
  • Observing all store rules and company policies.
  • Enforcing store operating hours for receiving according to company policy.
  • Controlling the flow of vendor traffic through receiving doors.
  • Checking and verifying all grocery items received to ensure that the items listed on vendor invoices are actually delivered and meet store policy for quality, count, and condition.
  • Verifying that all vendor invoices include legible pricing and are properly extended.
  • Flagging attention to any discrepancies and shortages on invoice documents and obtain the signature of the delivery vendor for confirmation of such shortages according to company policy.
  • Handling damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
  • Performing accurate posting of all invoice documents to the receiving log and place all signed invoices in the designated and secure area.
  • Keeping all warehouse, receiving, storage, and spoils areas clean, clear and in good order.
  • Bailing cardboard boxes and cleaning dock as needed.
  • Using bailer, pallet jacks and forklifts in compliance with company safety policy.
  • Ensuring compliance with heath department, weights and measures requirements, liquor and tobacco laws, and invoice handling.

Performs other duties as needed or assigned by management. Must be at least 18 years old.

Ability to:

  • With both customers, vendors, drivers and team members, remain helpful, tactful and courteous.
  • Work quickly and efficiently, sometimes with little direction, to accomplish assigned duties.
  • Add, subtract, divide, multiply and perform other basic business math calculations.
  • Read UPC codes, product labels, shelf signage, business forms, and posted company policies/procedures.
  • Use computer equipment and software used to record invoices and invoice amounts.
  • Be knowledgeable of a wide variety general department products (grocery, frozen food, HBC, non-foods, liquor, DSD and dairy), including their locations in the store.
  • Be dexterous enough with hands and fingers so as to be able to fill and rotate products quickly and use necessary equipment, including box cutters..
  • Communicate openly and professionally through appropriate body language, facial expressions and speech, also communicating in writing when necessary.
  • Stand for long periods of time, bend and twist, and frequently lift and/or maneuver merchandise and supplies weighing 30 – 50lbs.
  • Lift 50 and maneuver up to 100 lbs, while breaking down large and very heavy pallet loads of produce cases, boxes and bags.
  • Operate manual and electric pallet jacks.
  • Often work in walk-in refrigerated coolers.
  • Pass a background screen.
  • If called upon, may need to learn use of cash registers
