What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Associate Editor, Contributors position at Forbes?
Forbes is seeking a Temporary Associate Editor, Contributors who will spend three months helping support our 2,500 expert writers to ensure that they consistently produce high-quality digital journalism on the beats most important to Forbes and its readers. This editor will be responsible for helping to coordinate our coverage of crypto, fintech, future of work and other related topics.
This Editor will report to the Assistant Managing Editor, Contributors, and will collaborate with other members of the contributor team as well as the social media, newsletter, video and SEO teams.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and support our rosters of outside experts writing about topics like crypto, fintech, future of work, leadership, aerospace and defense, and other related topics.
- Enforce best journalistic practices, editorial standards and guidelines.
- Better enable contributors to consistently produce high-quality articles on the biggest stories driving the news by providing editorial support, technical assistance, and other questions.
- Recommend stories to contributors and edit articles that will attract a new audience.
- Analyze audience data and search and social patterns for strategic decision-making on coverage and provide actionable guidance to contributors to increase posts and readership.
- Help recruit and develop new contributors with diverse backgrounds, expertise and experiences.
- Collaborate with newsroom colleagues on projects and impactful coverage that is authentic to the Forbes brand.
The ideal candidate:
- Unimpeachable news judgment, cool diplomacy skills and demonstrated expertise in key areas of coverage
- Expert line-editing skills with an ear for voice and the ability to provide editorial guidance to subject-matter experts on headlines, story leads and photos.
- At two years professional journalism experience in a professional digital newsroom
- Experience working with freelancers or contributors
- Experience training colleagues on new tools, best practices or adoption of new formats
- Background in multi-platform journalism, from working on newsletters and video series and podcasts to collaborating with data analysts and social media to increase audience and engagement is a plus
- Strong organizational and management skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
The hourly rate for this role is $40.00 - $45.00.
