Ford Model E is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up, breakthrough electric vehicles. The Sr. Manager of Body and Closures will lead concept development and detailed design of the body structure components, as well as the doors, hood, drop glass, and liftgate opening systems through multiple stages of development. You will Conceptualize, Design, Engineer, Develop and support the launch of full vehicle body and closures components.
What you’ll be able to do:
- Lead the creation and development of body components and closures geometry, along with engineering execution in conjunction with design, supply chain, and other core teams.
- Own the creation of vehicle-aligned component and system targets for function, cost, weight and investment.
- Develop 3D geometry and innovative designs concepts that solve challenging crash load cases while balancing construction, material, and manufacturing methods
- Optimize the concepts and designs with analytical and physical assessments, ensuring conformation to federal regulations governing assigned systems.
- Lead the delivery of world-class craftsmanship and fit/finish through the proper implementation of GD&T.
- Develop, study, and implement novel construction techniques and materials then drive them to production feasibility. Build physical prototypes to prove out interaction models, materials, structures, or electrical interaction.
- Enable effective communications with Studio, Packaging, Advanced Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier activities to deliver optimal design solutions
- Support presentations of concepts and status to senior management and internally to Company personnel in an integration and subject matter expert role
The minimum requirements we seek:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 2 years leading a team
- 7 years of experience designing, developing, and releasing one or more automotive closures subsystem and adjoining parts including component manufacturing and assembly processes
- 5 years of experience using 3D CAD software collaboratively (NX, Catia, 3DX, etc.)
- 5 year of experience in the production release process
- 3 years designing to world automotive legal requirements
- 3 year of experience in a factory setting launching a new product
Preferred Requirements:
- Excellent understanding of GD&T standards
- Skilled in mentorship and building out teams
- High level of expertise and proficiency with Catia, Enovia, or similar tools including drawing and modelling practices and methodologies
- Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Confluence, and Jira applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects with tight timing constraints.
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Certificate of Accomplishment from a recognized Design educational institution, or equivalent skills and expertise
- An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team
- A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement
