Engineering Manager

ForeFlight is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Map Capabilities Team. This person will lead the teams that are responsible for the map engines on mobile and web platforms. This position is for a technically well-rounded individual with experience building and shipping mobile, web, or backend applications. This is a technical management role, with responsibility for high level technical direction for a team, as well as people and process management of that team. Daily code contributions will be limited in this role, but a strong grasp of the technology is important.

This person has a technical background in software engineering and a track record of building and leading a team of engineers and testers. This person will work closely with the product team to define a roadmap for the team, collaborate with other teams and departments to execute projects, and will take responsibility for developer experience and the health of the codebase by identifying and advocating for necessary improvements.

This position is based out of our Portland, ME office, and remote options are available. A pilot-coder, or individual looking to pursue their private pilot license, is a plus.

Skills And Requirements

• 8 years of experience in software engineering
  
  
• 2 years of experience as a people manager for a remote, distributed team
  
  
• Experience leading project execution across multiple teams
  
  
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
  
  
• Aviation industry or map engine experience is a plus
