GS-05: Applicants must have at least 3 years of progressively responsible general experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level; OR a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree; OR an appropriate combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience.
Examples of qualifying general experience for the GS-05 grade level are defined as experience performing routine support work in administration, including answering inquiries, entering data into an automated system, and reviewing requests to ensure all required information has been provided.
GS-07: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level; OR one full year of graduate level education; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education; OR
Superior Academic Achievement.
Specialized experience for the GS-07 grade level is defined as two or more of the following: providing support for a financial management program by receiving and tracking financial correspondence related to the program; and/or reviewing pertinent regulations, policies, and procedures and applying them to limited and routine work assignments in an administrative field; and/or under supervision, performing basic accounting, auditing, or budgeting tasks in support of financial management program.
GS-09: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level; OR a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level).
Specialized experience for the GS-09 grade level is defined as three or more of the following: assisting in validating financial data using well-established accounting principles and practices; and/or extracting budget or program data from computer printouts of accounting records, forms, and reports; and/or collecting financial data and making basic computations according to established standards; and/or preparing routine financial reports, fact sheets, or correspondence that provided financial information.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT (GS-07/09): If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the date the certificate of eligible candidates is issued.
