POSITION TITLE: 6-12 Literacy/Social Studies Coordinator
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Curriculum and Professional Development
LOCATION: Parker Center
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: A full contract for this position is 240 days, with benefits as specified in employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on actual start date.
BEGINNING: July 1, 2022
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a valid Arkansas Professional Teaching
- Must have three (3) years successful classroom
- Must have a strong background in instructional strategies and practices that actively engage students.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of standards-based, data-driven decision
- Must demonstrate knowledge and leadership in the development and implementation of district and building instructional goals
- Must possess skills in
- Must be willing to increase knowledge and skills through attending applicable trainings. Some may occur during the summer or after contract
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Support the Fort Smith Public Schools mission statement, the Arkansas State Literacy Standards, and provide support for 6-12 teachers to apply research based instructional practices.
- Provide assistance in the consistent implementation of high quality instructional materials and strategies.
- Provide assistance in the analysis of student data designed to drive classroom instruction toward increased student achievement.
- Maintain communication networks for district administrators, instructional specialists, teachers, and students to disseminate timely information, clarify initiatives, and demonstrate effective instructional practices.
- Provide leadership for literacy programs and instruction across the district.
- Provide intensive, job-embedded, and on-going literacy professional development for district personnel.
- Establish and maintain a deep understanding of current literacy teaching theories and practices.
- Manage and evaluate the district's literacy program to ensure the highest level of quality programs and practices.
- Collaborate with district personnel to establish a coherent district literacy plan.
- Maintain a collegial relationship with teachers for the purpose of improving instruction.
- Other duties as assigned related to content coordination.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, squatting.
