BASIC FUNCTION :
Provides safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for Citilink customers. Drivers interact with passengers and staff for Access Paratransit Services to supply secure and courteous transportation service to ADA passengers and assist passengers with or without mobility devices, service animals in boarding and exiting the vehicle.
Maintains professional conduct in accordance with company policies and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Drive and operate transit vehicles for official transit business only and in accordance with the system's safety plan routes and on-time performance standards.
- Follow defensive driving techniques to minimize the risk of accidents and incidents.
- Operate equipment (wheelchair lifts, headway signs, radios, fareboxes, etc.) in a safe and reliable manner.
- Provide customer courtesy to all passengers, including providing information on Citilink services and fares .
- Provides passenger assistance in boarding and deboarding, especially for customers who are elderly, mobility impaired, or who are accompanied by small children .
- Follow safety procedures for loading, unloading, and securing all passengers.
- Collect and report passenger fares and ridership in an accurate, honest manner.
- Complete pre- and post-trip inspections according to procedure noting mechanical failures and maintenance needs .
- Provide accurate survey documentation ( b oarding / deboarding, shelters / benches, obstructing tree limbs, maintenance issues, etc. )
- Provide professional radio communications in transmitting information such as delays, accidents, and other customer service issues.
- Provide accurate information regarding cancellations, no-shows, route changes, etc.
- Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
- Maintain professional conduct and image while on duty.
- Adhere to company rules and procedures .
- Follow fixed route procedures, including calling out major intersections, assisting passengers, noting check points and transfer locations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience as a transit operator preferred.
PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS :

- Must have a valid State of Indiana Commercial Driver's license; CDL Class B is preferred.
- Maintain a good driving record and safe driving skills.
- Must be able to pass scheduled physical examinations and random alcohol / drug tests.
- Must be able to transport service animals.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and Saturdays.
Must be able to pass an annual physical examination and alcohol / drug test and participate in ongoing random drug and alcohol testing.
