The Accounting Associate is a member of the Organizational Team and will be responsible for providing accounting, bookkeeping, and administrative support.
This position is ideal for a highly organized person with great communication skills, a passion for numbers, a commitment to equity and an interest in advancing clean and equitable mobility in a growing, dynamic organization.
Description of Duties
- Perform full-cycle accounts payable process, including receiving, coding invoices and processing payment requests
- Produce invoices; ensure alignment with payment terms in contract; complete reporting as necessary
- Ensure invoice payments are received; follow-up with program contact or Forth staff member as necessary
- Manage and disburse cash and checks by recording entry; verifying documentation; depositing to bank
- Assist with management of credit cards and Expensify, recording and reconciling transactions, and making credit card payments on time
- Maintain vendor W-9s; prepare 1099s at the end of each calendar year
- Provide supporting documentation for monthly financial review and maintain monthly reports as requested
- Assist Forth Finance Team and auditor as required
Qualifications
Required:
- A passion for Forth’s mission and values and a desire to deepen your understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion
- One year of experience in accounting, finance or related field
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and practices
- Demonstrated experience with accounting software or related systems
- Demonstrated self-motivation, ability to work independently and collaboratively, and attention to detail without losing a “big picture” perspective
- An ability to take the work seriously, without taking yourself too seriously
- Must be located in Portland, OR or willing to relocate
- This role is classified as Hybrid and has duties that require regular time at the office, approximately 1 time per week; other time may be remote from home office
Helpful:
- Previous experience in a nonprofit organization with a mission-driven staff and board
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
- Lived experience working within traditionally underrepresented and underserved communities across racial and cultural lines
- Working knowledge of transportation, energy, or environmental issues
COMPENSATION
Starting salary range is $44,000-$51,500 annually, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits include four weeks paid vacation annually, fully paid health, dental and vision insurance for the employee and all dependents and an employer retirement contribution after six months (no match required).
