What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facility Maintenance position at Fortis College?
Main responsibility is for the maintenance and safe upkeep of Fortis College. This may include but is not limited to perform a variety of manual labor activities related to carpentry, painting, plumbing, landscaping, cleaning and maintenance repairs. Areas to be included in maintenance are offices, classrooms, labs, restrooms, hallways, common areas, building exterior and surrounding property.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Communicate with students, faculty, staff and other individuals to answer questions, explanation of maintenance issues, and address complaints and maintenance concerns in the building.
· Provide removal of snow and ice as needed. Accept responsibility to after hour emergencies or other problems as needed.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, the general public, and students.
· Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.
· Pursue a personal development skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the position.
· Perform related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
· Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, and turning, kneeling, bending, stopping, squatting, grasping and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties.
· The position also requires both near and far vision when operating power tools. The need to lift and push trash cans, building materials, and other equipment and supplies weighing up to 80 pounds is also required.
· The incumbent may use spraying and cleaning ingredients, exposing employees to fumes, dust and air contaminants which may cause eye and skin irritations. Make sure employees are aware when this is going to happen.
· The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb on ladders, use power, noise and vibration producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles and equipment which subjects the employee to mechanical and electrical hazards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· A diploma/certificate from college or technical school or one-year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Have ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and to take directions and work independently, with minimal supervision.
· Have the ability to communicate information effectively to others. Provide information to supervisor or co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
· Must be capable of working in an environment in which demands and priorities change rapidly.
