Responsibilities

The Payroll Manager leads the global payroll function for the firm. In this position, you will provide leadership and oversight of payroll processing to ensure they are on-time, accurate, and in compliance with government regulations including timely tax filings. You will also exercise the utmost discretion when handling sensitive and confidential matters, such as payroll changes, personnel relations, and organizational changes.

The ideal candidate can lead, think strategically, quickly adapt to changing priorities, and enjoys solving complex challenges. You will collaborate effectively with leaders in HR, IT, and finance, essentially driving payroll priorities and developing and improving processes in a dynamic organization under the direction of the Talent Technology Services Senior Director.

How you will contribute:

    Own US payroll processing transitioning from two legacy UKG systems to Workday over the next year
  • Coach and develop a dynamic team of direct reports, focusing on FORVIS' UCX principles. Establish a vision for growth and career opportunity within the payroll department
  • Apply sound judgment and discretion to ensure consistently the development and implementation of related short and long-range payroll strategies resulting in increased productivity, efficiency, and enhanced payroll service
  • Leverage strategic opportunities, innovative business and technology solutions, as well as business intelligence to drive continuous improvement, and deliver and implement efficient and seamless processes for key payroll functions. Ensure complete, accurate, and up-to-date documentation of processes; identify and implement updates to payroll processes necessary for compliance and increased efficiencies
  • Oversee procedures and processes and manage inquiries and requests related to the preparation and distribution of payroll. Assist with processing biweekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payrolls. As needed, adjust, generate W2Cs, process supplemental payroll runs, and process reversals
  • Build strong partnerships and effectively collaborate with key internal teams such as HRIS, benefits, legal, IT, finance, and project teams
  • Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems and procedures to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions. Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates. Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
  • Support the internal and external audit processes as required. Ensure all established controls are executed accurately, timely, and efficiently on all deliverables
  • Collaborate with finance on the general ledger for accuracy and any necessary adjustments
  • Reconcile taxes
  • Manage external payroll vendor relationships
  • Assess staffing requirements and make recommendations to management on future needs

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years of progressively responsible payroll administration and project leadership experience in payroll with large, enterprise-level payroll systems, or other closely related experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred; Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent with commensurate experience
  • Hands-on experience and demonstrated expertise in payroll systems
  • Ability to develop, facilitate, and train others on payroll systems and applications
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel, or related software
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Wide range of experience with and specialized knowledge of US payroll.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification such as CPP, SHRM-CP, PHR
  • Experience with non-US payroll (i.e., Canada, United Kingdom)
  • Experience in a highly matrixed organization
  • Experience with reporting tools/business intelligence software and process mapping
  • Experience developing and facilitating training and/or user guides for end-users as well as developing and implementing business processes
