Last Updated: 09/15/2022 Flex Work Option: Some Position Summary The Human Resources Business Insights Partner (HRBP) performs diversified management and human resources duties while providing expertise in the areas of employee relations, performance management and coaching, and supporting employee engagement and development. The HRBP’s responsibilities require thorough knowledge of Human Resource practices and is a well-versed generalist, with strong project management experience and proactively engage successfully within our Diversity Equity & Inclusion framework, programs, procedures, Foundation policies and procedures, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations. The HRBP provides professional, analytical, consultative, and strategic support for managers, supervisors, and employees regarding human resources issues. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Lead employee onboarding and orientation activities, ensuring seamless and efficient processes and an excellent employee experience, in strong partnership with other infrastructure teams. Provide consultative service and support to designated client groups that have varying business models and complex issues, serving as the primary business partner on employee matters. Operate fluidly with a collaborative and solutions-oriented approach with managers and employees; drive to solutions-based progressive discipline with investigatory responsibilities for employee relations matters; and partner with management on coaching and counseling for performance. Support and contribute to the development and maintenance of a talent strategy and performance-oriented culture by communicating, teaching, influencing, and supporting the execution of consistent processes and routines around talent assessment, succession planning, recognition, and performance management. Engage and support DEI initiatives and activities. Coach and consult with managers and people influencers on embedding inclusive practices that align with our DEI goals and objectives. Partner with the leadership team regarding employee and management development needs, identifying and facilitating activities to improve skills, encourage career development and build bench strength. Assist in matters of communications between employees and leadership, performance management, conflict resolution, change management, disciplinary action, and explanation and clarification of policies and procedures. Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations and responsible for maintaining in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partner with the legal department as needed/required. Participate, facilitate and/or conduct employee and leadership training programs and proactively identify opportunities to address leadership capabilities. Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations governing the employment process. Assist in development, documentation, and implementation of continuous improvement of Human Resource practices, procedures, and programs to meet organizational needs. May guide the work of and mentor more junior level HR staff. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of all general competency areas of Human Resources (employee relations, coaching, talent development, performance) including strong knowledge of current employment laws and Human Resources practices. Demonstrated experience developing and implementing HR policies, programs, projects and initiative with proven project management and leadership skills; ability to prioritize tasks, efficiently manage timelines, and to execute projects effectively with limited supervision and according to established deadlines. Excellent organizational skills; strong initiative; excellent follow through and time management skills; intentional about providing “speed to service” on needs and requests; takes accountability naturally; and is able to work seamlessly under strict time constraints. Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships across the organization with all levels of staff and employ the ability to integrate and act upon diverse perspectives. Ability to exercise good judgment and escalate critical issues and sensitive matters as necessary, and able to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints maintaining complete confidentiality where required. Demonstrated experience coaching and consulting management and staff from a “people-first” perspective by helping to identify problems or issues proactively with the intent to help thought-partner and problem solve. Ability to effectively present information in various settings (individual, small and large groups). Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and in online meeting collaboration tools, like Zoom and Google Docs. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences, from C-suite professionals to inexperienced youth. Supervisory Responsibilities/Level of Supervision Ability to manage by influence and ability to build and maintain credibility. Receives general direction as to job duties and responsibilities and program, departmental, and individual goals and the achievement of those goals. Evaluated based on successful performance of essential job duties and responsibilities and achievement of goals. Exercises sound judgment in consulting Human Resources Director and escalating critical issues and sensitive matters for review and guidance, as necessary. Education and Experience Relevant BA/BS, equivalent work experience, or a combination of both Minimum of five (5) years progressive of experience in HR, business administration, project management or a related field. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an education or non-profit environment preferred. SPHR/PHR strongly preferred. Familiarity with the Community College system a plus. Working Hours, Location, and Travel This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, with additional hours as needed to address the organization’s needs. This is a California-based position, with the flexibility to work remotely (in California) or in person at our Sacramento office. This position may require moderate travel to attend meetings, conferences, and perform other essential functions of the job.
