Position: Safety Monitor
Department: Central Office
Reports to: Director of Safety and Security
Supervisor Responsibilities: Provides supervision of students & buildings/grounds
Salary: $20/hour
Days: Student days

Summary: This position supports the district in creating a safe learning atmosphere by effectively monitoring students, buildings, building access points, grounds and facilities. This position will work collaboratively with building administration and staff to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors, directs and supervises students effectively to deter or prevent inappropriate behavior.
- Basic knowledge of all applicable Federal, State, Local regulations for students and public schools and Board of Education policies.
- Maintains composure in difficult situations and uses de-escalation tactics when necessary.
- Ability to respond effectively to emergency concerns for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Assist the administration in providing a safe and orderly environment for all students and staff by monitoring building, grounds and building access.
- Greets, check-in, verify and escort visitors to appropriate locations.
- Must exhibit reliable, punctual, dependable, honest and self-motivated abilities.
- Understands policies and expectations and can communicate them clearly to students, staff, volunteers, parents and other visitors.
- Establishes effective interactions with students who have made a first-time mistake/error and also those students who are habitual offenders.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and community.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations, co-workers and other employee organizations.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Addresses confidential matters with professionalism and discretion.
- Reports any and all safety hazards and security threats immediately to supervisor.
- Exhibits a positive image as a loyal representative of the school district.
- Perform all other duties as delegated by the immediate supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Previous law enforcement or military experience.
- Minimum experience of six (6) months to one (1) year with school-aged children.
Language, Mathematical and Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to speak and write effectively.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, basic, written or oral instructions.
- Ability to operate office and school equipment such as computer, educational technology, telephone, etc.
- Keeps and maintains adequate visitor data/records and provides date/records to the administrator as required for the position.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be physically present.
- Regularly required to sit, walk and stand.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Employee will occasionally bend or twist at the neck and/or trunk while performing duties.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust, focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen.
Work Environment:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
