What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Sensei position at Freckle Farm?

Position Summary:

The Sensei is responsible for providing support to the Freckle Farm team through organizing and scheduling tasks, thinking creatively and using problem solving skills to managing everyday store activities. You are expected to operate with honesty and integrity. You must show initiative and take responsibility for your own actions and be truthful in all interactions. This position will require that you have exceptional customer skills.

You will be responsible for training staff, answering questions from staff and customers, administering and updating store processes, resolving customer conflicts, overseeing the care of house plants and outdoor plants, assisting with team training meetings, working with the Master Sensei to facilitate Freckle Farm events, organizing staff to receive shipments, and mentoring and educating staff. Your passion for plants and people must be infectious.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Provide direct assistance and report to Master Sensei

2. Perform duties of acting manager when the Master Sensei is unavailable

3. Think creatively to resolve customer complaints

4. Assign tasks to employees to keep business running smoothly

5. Monitor and provide feedback to managed staff to effect improvements in organizational goals

6. Explore opportunities to add value to the company and recommend changes

7. Educate Freckle Farm staff to properly care for plants and customers

8. Oversee day-to-day operations

9. Ensure compliance of all staff to the company’s core values

10. Aid in development, coordination, and execution of workshops, events, and store promotional ideas

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Preference given for course work and/or job experience in Horticulture, Greenhouse Management, Crop Production, Plant Physiology, Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, or related field

Specific vision abilities required by this job are dictated by the Utah Driver’s License requirements.

This job may have specific physical demands including, but not limited to, the following: ability to lift up to 75 lbs; ability to operate machinery with moving mechanical parts; ability to bend, reach, kneel, squat, stand for a long period of time and push/pull heavy loads; Operate a variety of nursery equipment requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement.

Pay: $14.00 - $18.00 per hour
