The manager of education and practice oversees day-to day operations, budget management, human resources management, and quality assurance of activities for the department.
This management position collaborates with multidisciplinary leaders, peers, and colleagues at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC), colleagues at our partner institutions (UWMC and CHRMC), and external organizations (Oncology Nursing Society, National Comprehensive Cancer Network, etc.) to assure the provision of high-quality clinical practice and training through strategic program development.
The manager is a critical thinker who uses theoretical, evidenced-based, and experiential knowledge to advance clinical practice, including research practice, and support standardized practice and training. Work situations range from clinical and research to managerial and require independent decision-making, analysis, policy and program development, problem and issue resolution and leadership skills.
- Manage and lead department with multiple and competing demands for time and resources. In collaboration with Director, develops and executes education and practice department strategy in support of organizational strategy and clinical needs.
- Function as a clinical role model for all staff by staying current on clinical and education practice issues and standards.
- Encourage innovative, evidence-based approaches to staff education and practice
- Fiscal management including budget preparation, monitoring, and management
- Ensure department is staffed appropriately and supervise staff, including hiring, performance evaluations, ensuring training and development, managing disciplinary action, layoff, and termination issues.
Required:
- 5 years of healthcare experience, 2 years managing people
- Master's degree in a healthcare related field
- WA State Licensed Registered Nurse
- Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, problem solving, conflict resolution, and ability to make independent decisions
- Demonstrated ability to work well with team members toward a common purpose
- Demonstrated leadership skills including strategy and goal development
- Demonstrated training skills
- Broad knowledge of clinical care and research; expert clinician
- Proficiency in use of standard office computer software programs, equipment, and clinical information systems
Preferred:
- Broad knowledge of oncology
- Experience participating and translating research in clinical practice
- Possesses working knowledge of financial processes, including budget preparation and asset management
- Experience in implementing Lean principles and Continuous Process Improvement Methodology
- Master's Degree in Nursing Education
- OCN, BMTCN, AMB-BC, Certification
- 2 years education or training experience
This position is patient facing and/or requires access to Fred Hutch clinical facilities. As such, full COVID-19 vaccination is required as a condition of employment, without exception. Booster doses are strongly recommended but not required. The annual base salary range for this position is from $111,748 to $176,634 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
