·Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
·Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion.
·Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
·Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
·Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
·Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
·Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
·Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
·Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
·Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
·Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
· Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
· Diagnoses cause of malfunctions and performs repair.
· Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
· Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
· Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
· Communicates with service advisor/dispatcher immediately on repair updates and or delays.
· Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
· Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
· Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
· Maintains and is accountable for all shop-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
· Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc. Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
· Operates all tools/equipment in a safe manner and reports any safety issues immediately to management.
Skills and Qualifications
·Automatic Transmissions.
· Aftertreatment Diagnostics.
· Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· ASE Certification a plus
· Experience working on Freightliner, Volvo, Mack and International Trucks, Certification preferred
· Cummins Engine Repair Certification a plus
· Basic computer skills
· High School Diploma- College or Technical training preferred, but not required
· Valid CDL License a plus
· TWIC card/Port badge preferred'
