What Will You Be Doing?

Write original content and revise existing content for technical publication projects of an operational nature. Obtain internal regulatory compliance approvals, conduct cross-departmental reviews, and ensure system safety attribute conformity.

Essential Functions

* Lead, prioritize, and coordinate the daily work of the Technical Writers to ensure the quality, consistency and accuracy of assigned materials.
* Assist with developing training material and training the Technical Writers.
* Make recommendations for the improvement of functionality, standardization, or appearance of all internal publications.
* Maintain a current Technical Publications Handbook and Style Guide.
* Maintain proficiency in publishing software programs used by the department.
* Perform the functions of the Editor and Technical Writer at a satisfactory level.
* As designee for the Supervisor, Technical Publications, interface with the FAA.
* Assist Publications Specialist as required.

Other Functions

* Assist the Supervisor, Technical Publications on assigned projects.
* Complete research projects as assigned.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or Technical Communications, or equivalent experience - required
* Experience with XML or SGML - preferred
* 2 - 3 years of technical writing experience - required
* Previous aviation experience - required
* Proof-reading, copy editing, and desktop publishing experience - preferred
* Experience working with ATOS and/or System Safety Attributes - preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Proficient computer skills in the MS Office Suite and Adobe FrameMaker
* Strong writing and research skills
* Must have the ability to tolerate ambiguity and thrive in a rapidly changing environment.
* Must be able to work independently, as a member of a team and demonstrate effective communication (listening, speaking, and writing) skills.
* Must be able to work well under pressure while managing multiple deadlines and maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.

Typical office environment, adequately heated and cooled

Physical Effort

Light physical effort required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.

Supervision Received

General Supervision: The incumbent performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures and receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.
