Overview
Senior Automation Engineer is a mid-level position in the Automation Engineering department of FDBU. This position will directly report to the Associate Director, Engineering, but may also have a functional reporting relationship to a senior colleague on a project-to-project basis.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide troubleshooting expertise, problem analysis and technical support to the manufacturing plant as needed for all Automation equipment including: PLCs & HMIs (Allen-Bradley), DCS (ABB 800xA & DeltaV), and BMS (Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Desigo)
- Identify automation improvements and manage related, small automation project
- Support medium to large capital projects from an automation perspective
- Ability to interpret and understand electrical layouts, detail drawings, and wiring schematics
- Coach, mentor, and provide guidance for a team of engineers
- Support engineering, project management, and validation documentation efforts
- Attend all internal hands-on training for the SOPs in the curriculum assigned to the position.
- Support a rotating on-call responsibility. The Automation Engineering department provides 24-hour support for manufacturing.
The Major Equipment and Systems that are supported include:
DCS manufactured by Asea Brown Boveri (ABB)
BMS manufactured by Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI)
PLCs & HMIs manufactured by Allen Bradley-Rockwell Automation
LPC Skids manufactured by Cytiva
Single Use Equipment by various manufacturers, including Cytiva and Sartorius.
BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
- BSc. degree or equivalent; or 7 to 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- GMP experience preferred
- Knowledge of PI, OPC UA/DA communications, VMware is preferred
- Ability to work in a cross functional team environment
FDBU works with technical data, technology and materials that are subject to U.S. export laws and regulations. This position will require access to technical data, technology and source code that is controlled under U.S. export laws and regulations, including but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations at 22 C.F.R. Parts 120 – 130 and Export Administration Regulations in 15 C.F.R. Part 730 – 774, as may be amended.
