MINIMUM SALARY FOR THIS POSITION IS $51,498
High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training in a related field; supplemented by five years of experience in public safety dispatch and/or 911 emergency communications experience; to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Must possess and maintain the following: Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certification, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Certification, Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification. Must possess and maintain APCO Registered Public-Safety Leader (RPL) Certification - within 24 months of employment and APCO Communications Center Supervisor Certification - within 24 months of employment.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
EXAMINATION:
The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education and experience as listed to be rated as qualified. The purpose of this classification is to supervise daily activities and operations of an assigned shift within the Emergency Communications Center. Responsibilities include overseeing the preparation of shift schedules, and evaluating, recommending, and coordinating certification/recertification training, and supervising staff. This classification is distinguished from the Assistant Shift Supervisor in that this class supervises daily activities and operations of an assigned shift whereas the latter class supervises and schedules assignments for Communications Officers and maintains paperwork of communications operations. Incumbent works within a 24-hour, seven (7) days a week operation and performs shift work as required including working holidays and weekends.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Supervises daily activities and operations of assigned shift of the Emergency Communications Center: conducts roll call; runs/reviews daily reports; monitors calls for compliance with policies and procedures; coordinates and evaluates timely receipt, dispatch, and completion of emergency aid requests; processes complaints or issues commendations (Star Card); coaches/counsels staff; assists employees when officers are in a pursuit; notifies Field Supervisors as necessary; adheres to rules and regulations governing FCC; and ensures security guidelines are met pertaining to GCIC/NCIC.
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; establishes workloads and prioritizes work assignments; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves leave; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
Evaluates, recommends, and coordinates required certification/recertification training for staff on an assigned shift as needed.
Oversees preparation of shift schedules: utilizes CAD System for notifications; completes notification check-off lists; makes calls to on-call personnel; sends notifications to community and employees through CodeRed Alert system; and makes recommendations for schedule adjustments during staff shortages.
Prepares, reviews, and compiles statistical reports and operational data: completes Daily Observation Reports on newly hired employees to track progress; completes quarterly reports for appraisals, bias based profile reports, monthly stats for Manager's Report, and daily case numbers; and retrieves information for Police and Sheriff/Marshal's Departments for CALEA.
Assists staff with emergency/non-emergency and high priority calls as needed: investigates citizens' complaints and makes recommendations for resolution; dispatches Field Units and Field Supervisors to various locations; executes Field Units' requests such as wrecker service, call backs, taxi service etc.; and provides requested information referencing Georgia Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center.
Supervises the collection and storage of emergency communications dispatch records.
Attend meetings on behalf of the Assistant Director/Director and makes necessary immediate decisions or recommendations to management.
Maintains a current, comprehensive knowledge and awareness of applicable laws, regulations, principles and practices relating to provision of provision of 911 communications services; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; maintains required certifications; and attends meetings, workshops, hearings, and training sessions as required.
