The Packaging Engineer will add value to FXI by identifying and validating new packaging technology and methods while developing and implementing new packaging specs. In this role, the selected candidate will provide leadership and support in the areas of packaging design and packaging development. This role will have an emphasis on sustainable packaging solutions while solving internal and external infrastructure challenges.


  • Conduct testing required to support packaging improvements and new packaging launches, including all sizing, filling and ship stability tests as required
  • Partner with sales and marketing teams in vetting packaging solutions for in-store merchandising, displays, fixtures and pallets
  • Manage all day to day packaging projects and timelines to ensure fastest possible completion
  • Research and development of optimum packaging to better meet customer and consumers needs and wants
  • Make suggestions on improvements to design and sourcing
  • Drive for efficiency, alignment, and accuracy
  • Drive best practice sharing across the organization
  • Seek out new packaging technologies, focused on sustainability, and coordinate all testing of alternate or new packaging, implementing solutions from initial concept to plants, engineering, operations scheduling, QA, pallet configuration and communication, and approval process
  • Prepare technical summaries and business impact of packaging format or technology for review and discussion
  • Evaluate the design of packaging systems and packaging components to ensure defined needs for brand aesthetics, consumer acceptance, manufacturing capability, quality and cost are met
  • Understand and interpret package testing procedures and results to support the effective design, qualification, validation, and implementation of new package systems and packaging technology
  • Coordinate packaging line trials to ensure performance for manufacturing
  • Attend component and manufacturing startups as needed to ensure proper execution of design, function, and manufacturability
  • Partner with plant engineering to ensure that packaging equipment/material system specifications, functionality and design are appropriate for use
  • Works closely with purchasing to introduce and evaluate new suppliers while developing a long term strategic sourcing plan that provides lowest total landed cost packaging solutions to FXI while minimizing supply chain risks

  • Bachelor's Degree in Package Engineering/Technology/Science or related field
  • 5-10 years Package Development/Engineering experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal skills
  • Innovative–inquisitive, challenges status quo
  • Prioritization and project management skills
  • Fundamental understanding of printing and decoration techniques for plastics, labels, and paperboard materials
  • Fundamental packaging knowledge of laminate tubes, paperboard folding cartons, and corrugated shippers
  • Ability to positively interact with all levels of the organization in a team environment
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP software/systems
  • Extensive experience working collaboratively with teams and a wide range of stakeholders
  • Up to 20% travel to plants, suppliers, customers
