The Design Manager serves our internal and external customers by managing all aspects of Middlestreet Graphics & Display artwork development for POP displays and signage. Provides leadership in artwork creativity to help the company maintain profitability goals.
- Provides day-to-day design leadership to encourage strategic thinking and creativity to develop compelling and captivating designs that fulfill customer needs.
- Oversees and directs all graphic print development to include artwork design, structural display development, POP prototyping, and artwork file prep to ensure that departmental and company standards are met.
- Direct a team of internal designers, senior designers, and structural designers. Ability to evaluate, guide, and if necessary, redirect creative and production development.
- Directs staffing, training, and skill development of direct reports to allow for talent management and employee engagement goals to be met.
- Schedules and assigns graphic production jobs to graphic designers and structural designers maximizing department efficiency to serve internal and external customer needs.
- Works with National Graphic Design Teams, as well as marketing agencies to secure artwork and approvals.
- Reviews, edits, and approves art and copy layouts for material prior to printing and according to established standards.
- Establish creative strategy, budgets, and schedules for key design projects.
- Manage the development and review the quality and accuracy of large-scale project designs.
- Supervises the production of physical prototypes and design mockups.
- Operates as a point-of-contact on graphic design initiatives/development for both internal and external customers.
- Collaborates with sales staff and customers in generating ideas and designs of POP display and signage for customers.
- Ensure timelines are met for design concepts, artwork development, and print file delivery for customers and print production team.
- Provides feedback on artwork design for improvement or identify problems with artwork that need resolved and makes recommendations for changes.
- Remains up to date and current on all industry trends involving graphic print production and design software.
- Communicates with co-workers, employees, and suppliers verbally and in writing regarding policy and procedure changes, departmental activities, operational feedback, and other information.
- Ensures that company policies, standards and procedures are met, followed and maintained in accordance with established company policy (e.g., OSHA and safety compliance, Federal/State/Local Laws).
- Maintains confidentiality of financial information, employee information (e.g., discipline, wage information), and other sensitive and confidential information.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor's Degree in graphic design or related field or equivalent work experience is required.
Experience: 5 years graphic arts production experience required; 2 years previous graphic arts management experience; 1-3 years previous supervisory experience required.
Computer Skills: Must have advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign), Font
Management, Caldera, Acrobat and Microsoft Office; 3D CAD software experience strongly preferred.
