Summary
The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for safely completing a wide range of tasks under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and must be proficient in mechanical, electrical and facility maintenance in a manufacturing setting. Responsible for assigned preventative maintenance work orders and repairs to electrical systems and mechanical equipment in the plant. Daily requirements will include skills such as fabricating, welding, machining, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
The Maintenance Electrician supports the production of high quality commercial roofing products, with a sense of urgency and accountability for equipment uptime. This employee thrives in environments where safety, quality, service and cost are the highest priorities and is able to make recommendations to improve the overall performance of plant equipment. The Maintenance Electrician will interact and communicate effectively with all GAF employees with a positive, customer focused attitude.
Essential Duties
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot industrial equipment, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems with minimal supervision
- Complete assigned preventative maintenance work orders on facilities, electrical systems, mechanical systems, equipment, and components
- Install and/or replace new or reconditioned parts as needed
- Work safely and assume responsibility for safety of self and others
- Follow all safety rules and policies including LOTO, maintenance work permits, PPE, JSAs and JSOs
- Ensure that excellent housekeeping is maintained and enhanced during the performance of all tasks
- Dismantle and make necessary repairs to such equipment as pumps, motors, chains, sprockets, bearing couple alignment, and other components
- Able to follow and understand mechanical sketches, drawing and prints; able to locate and understand information contained in equipment manuals
- Diagnose actual and potential problems, make necessary repairs, and test new and repaired machinery
- Support engineering projects as directed, including those with corporate and local contractor services
- Use the appropriate test instruments to diagnose and locate equipment malfunctions
- Tests and puts into service all electrical equipment that has been repaired, moved or recently installed
- Wire and maintain all buildings and structures including lighting and fixtures
- Troubleshoots all primary (up to 480v) and secondary electrical systems and control circuits
- Keep storeroom organized and maintain inventory counts per established procedures; assist with inventory audits as needed
- Inform Maintenance Supervisor of progress and concerns related to job assignments, plant condition, equipment status, and safety conditions
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records in Maximo while completing all required written and electronic documentation including work orders and labor hours
- Prepares for shift startup by reviewing shift notes, outgoing employee observations, e-mails, log books and other department data
- When not engaged in regular duties, perform other work as assigned

- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs and walk on open grating on elevated surfaces
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing
- Must be able to communicate effectively using phones and radios
- High school diploma or GED.
- A minimum of 3 years industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience required.
- Industrial maintenance experience in high volume manufacturing operation, preferably continuous process.
- Experience troubleshooting and repair of mechanical power trains, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, welding and assembly of parts and materials.
- Industrial Maintenance Certification or Associate's degree.
