The Active Systems division adheres to a 9/80 work schedule, with every other Friday off. In a two-week period, employees will work 9 hours per day, Monday through Thursday, the first week Friday is an 8-hour workday, while the second week Friday is off.
The Electronics Engineer III will lead electronics design within a team of talented multi-discipline engineers. The Electronics Engineer III will be a critical part of the team to design and build the next generation of smart protection products for extremely rugged markets. This role will give you the opportunity to work on creating leading edge new capabilities by converging a number of innovative new technologies in small form factor wearables. You will be joining a global fast-paced team working with a number of strategic partners to bring the next generation of smart equipment to market.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Electronics Team, Mechanical Engineers, Software Engineering and System Architects to ensure the product achieves all functional requirements as well as the Industrial Design intent. The role requires the ability to conduct system design, produce electronic assemblies, create prototypes, conduct board design and layout, board test and assist in final prototype assembly.
SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
People:
- Provides advice, guidance, and answers to management on all aspects of Electronics Design pertaining to all Galvion Active Systems products.
- Prepares and presents technical design and data at program review meetings, sales meeting, and customer engagements.
- Participates in DFx activities internally and with suppliers to ensure product design is cost-effective and conforms to the manufacturing and assembly plans.
- Serves as the decision maker on electronics engineering decisions.
- Works with Project Management to oversee electronics work breakdown and assignments between internal resources, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Shares knowledge and train team members.
- Trains and Mentors junior engineers.
- Develops and ensures compliance with best practices and lessons learned.
Process:
- Conducts electronics requirements capture based on customer needs. Conduct testing on 3rd party products to capture all requirements.
- Conducts and mentor schematic, layout, and routing design for PCBAs, as required for prototypes and/or production.
- Sources and manages outsource PCBA manufacturers.
- Conduct electronics testing, analyze test data, and produce incites feeding into future iterations including high speed signal testing.
- Works with Mechanical Engineers to conceptualize electronics board shapes, technologies, and materials as well as wire assembly types to allow Industrial Designers to produce ‘user focused’ systems.
- Develops detailed product ICDs and BOMs for internal and external use.
- Reviews internal and external designs and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
Performance:
- Works independently on tasks and seeks information proactively from stakeholders.
- Wide and comprehensive understanding of the principles, theories, concepts, and techniques of the electrical engineering discipline.
- Interprets engineering data and recommends solutions
- Uses ingenuity and innovation to generate solutions to electronics design needs and issues and contributes to the completion and manufacture of new products.
- Task leadership of small teams performing all types of electronic design/engineering activities in the product development life cycle, including but not limited to: Requirements management, component selection, circuit, and PCB design.
- Considered an expert in the field of Electronics across Galvion as a whole.
- Shall have a complete understanding of mechanical and systems engineers to understand product trade-offs across disciplines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering technology, computer engineering technology, telecommunications technology or an equivalent.
- At least 10 years of related work experience.
- Experience and understanding of high-speed digital signals (MIPI, LVDS).
- Experience with mobile processing technologies.
- Experience with embedded power supplies and PMICs
- Ability to solder and de-solder fine pitch components.
- Ability to cut and strap prototypes.
- Knowledge/experience with preparing product and engineering technical specifications and product performance test procedures or plans.
- Good working knowledge of communication circuits and protocols (e. g. I2C, Serial, etc.).
- Strong analytic problem-solving skills, using suitable tools.
- Ability to work with software to facilitate hardware testing.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Experience working with SolidWorks 3D CAD for mechanical design is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team; demonstrate good interpersonal skills. Ability to work under limited supervision.
- Strong organization and documentation skills.
