The Active Systems division adheres to a 9/80 work schedule, with every other Friday off. In a two-week period, employees will work 9 hours per day, Monday through Thursday, the first week Friday is an 8-hour workday, while the second week Friday is off.
PRIMARY EMPLOYMENT OBJECTIVES
As a Project Manager in Active Systems Galvion, your primary goal is to ensure projects are executed on time, at budget, and with first time quality by empowering and setting the structure for all team members to efficiently execute their work. You will lead exciting, complex cross functional teams using your understanding of Active Systems strategy, user requirements, programmatic requirements as well as technical acumen and project management expertise. You will need to develop a deep understanding of Active Systems products, technologies, work processes, and strategy and be passionate about the work. You will support internal productization projects and externally funded developmental programs, both of which are aimed at providing revolutionary capabilities by leveraging and integrating exciting emerging technologies. Success will only be achieved by developing and implementing creative approaches to project management centered around focused engagements that enable rapid iteration with low-overhead.
SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
People:
- Be enthusiastic about working on site with customers and/or supporting internal projects and senior leadership, bringing order and efficiency to critical internal initiatives.
- Engage senior resource managers to build project teams, develop work packages, identify and mitigate risk, and build concept of operations for program execution and progress monitoring.
- Collaborate with engineers and product managers to pursue agreed upon objectives while tracking, prioritizing and communicating top issues
- Serve as an ombudsman between external customers and the internal project team.
- Identify and engage stakeholders across Galvion. Tailor and present information to allow informed decision making both technical and programmatic.
- Facilitate efficient team meetings.
- Manage white papers and proposals, including development of cost and pricing, to support the business development and sales teams to meet customer needs/interests.
Process:
- Proactively manage all aspects of project planning, execution, and hand over to the product management team for Production (as required).
- Develop and implement methods tailored to specific projects to define, monitor, and control scope, cost, schedule, and quality. Make essential outputs available where team can access.
- Understand, quantify, and mitigate the impacts of scope change.
- Facilitate transition from understanding of end-user requirements to a formal system requirements document.
- Constantly assess internal work flows and processes for opportunities to improve efficiency or reduce risk. Proactively make recommendations and participate in cross-functional teams to address on opportunities.
- Use your technical expertise and experience to build a body of knowledge and educate your teammates on the fundamentals and tradeoffs for project development and execution.
- Attend industry days, government working groups, cross functional teams, customer events, etc. in an externally facing role in support of projects/programs. Extract and communicate pertinent technical and industry information.
- Other duties as assigned.
Performance:
- Proactively manage all aspects of project planning, execution, and transition to production.
- Facilitate transition from understanding of end-user requirements to a formal system requirements document.
- Understand internal project requirements and documentation to develop and implement a plan to ensure all deliverables are met.
- Provide value added input to the Active Systems strategic planning process.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- 6 to 9 years of experience in project management.
- Logical and rigorous thinker, with experience integrating new information rapidly, comprehending large amounts of information, drawing conclusions, and clearly communicating key findings preferred.
- Intellectual flexibility, curiosity, and willingness to learn
- Demonstrated excellence in leading cross-functional teams and managing product development projects for manufacturing products.
- Grasp of Lean Manufacturing concepts a plus.
- Demonstrated negotiating experience.
- Military experience a plus.
- Ability to obtain US Government Security Clearance
- Familiarity with Agile development processes
