Provide services as a Careers Scientific Program Analyst in support of the overall functions of Office of the Director (OD) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This position will support ORWH’s Careers section by promoting and coordinating trans-NIH efforts in women in biomedical careers, women’s health research, Sex as A Biological Variable, diversity, inclusion and other research activities. It will provide portfolio and bibliometric analyses and workforce trend analysis to provide the evidence base and inform decision making to support the ORWH careers programming. ORWH is expanding our role in overseeing more careers related programs NIH- wide such as the Continuity Supplements Program, these sets of skills are critical to support multiple NIH-wide programs to foster a diverse research workforce. The candidate must be able to work independently to answer a wide range of related question.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with staff on existing projects and/or the development, initiation and execution of new project initiatives. 1
  • Organize and analyze reports in a scientific area as assigned.
  • Prepare presentation materials such as handouts, meeting materials, slide presentations, and background/supplemental documents, spreadsheets, charts and graphs for conferences, committee, meetings, workshops and group updates.
  • Perform logistical planning for various scientific meetings, conference calls, symposia, lectures, workshops and special projects. 2
  • Draft, review and proofread programmatic documents, such as conference agendas, meeting agendas, letters to presenters, participant lists, handouts, emails, thank you letters and reports.
  • Work with staff to coordinate and plan scientific meetings, including communications with distinguished lecturers, invited guests and participants, registration and meeting logistics.
  • Coordinate with strategic project leaders on the logistics annual in-person Committee meetings, monthly teleconferences or videoconferences, and additional teleconferences, videoconferences or electronic reviews to address key issues.
  • Organize and coordinate program activities; manage agendas, meetings, background materials and minutes. 3
  • Develop a plan to improve the outreach, education, and interaction strategies of the Branch. 4
  • Organize and maintain a repository of resources, including minutes, reports, spreadsheets and web pages related to the program.
  • Collaborate with staff to plan and carry out special studies and analyses of the research portfolios.
  • Perform statistical analysis, including data management (cleaning, creating new variables, etc.), descriptive statistics, linear regression and regression analyses, logistic regression models and survival models.
  • Produce reports and requested products by or ahead of the deadlines. - Weekly
  • Actively participate in frequent discussions regarding program activities to inform and address issues that have been identified. - Weekly
  • Develop productive relationships with ORWH and other NIH staff to promote input on and coordination of trans-NIH efforts in women in biomedical careers, women's health research, SABV, diversity, inclusion, and other research activities. - Ad-Hoc
  • Develop PowerPoint and other presentations to be used at public, federal and internal in- person and online meetings. - Ad-Hoc
  • Provide logistical support for the NIH Women of Color Committee (WoCC) meetings. - Monthly
  • Provide support to the BIRCWH Project Officer to facilitate meeting preparation for the annual BIRCWH meeting. - Quarterly

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Life Sciences, Biochemical Sciences, or other equivalent degree.
  • Experience with Survey Data Analysis (SUDAAN), Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software.
  • Experience with writing reports and agendas, project management, data collection, plain language, data analysis, public health, survey design and analysis, and portfolio analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of NIH grants and funding mechanisms.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff.
  • Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
