Major Areas of Responsibility: The Beer Lead identifies/selects new products; acquires and maintains thorough knowledge about beer and stays apprised of trends in the beer industry; provides guests with assistance on food‐beer pairings; manages seasonal beer displays; manages and monitors inventory; ensures that shelves are properly stocked; evaluates weekly sales numbers; and other duties, as outlined below.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Guests: Sell beer; greet and engage our guests in a warm, welcoming manner; walk the floor to assist guests; assist customers in their shopping; help select items for gift baskets when needed, and cross‐promote giftware and gourmet items; promote signing up for Gary’s Insider Cards and Wine of the Month; make clients aware of store events and special tastings; develop a client base; perform carry outs as needed
- Product Knowledge: Identify and select new products; be knowledgeable about and sell our priority items; be knowledgeable about products being promoted online and in our media advertising; keep apprised of trends in the beer industry; have a thorough knowledge of beer; attend tastings, read periodicals, show a dedication to increasing product knowledge; determine product positioning and ensures that priority items are displayed to their advantage; have knowledge of food and beverage pairings
- Inventory: Purchase beer; reconciles POs and invoices; create new items, enter UPCs, price changes, put items on sale in Vision; assign floor team to tasks needed on the floor such as building displays, putting away stock, creating POS signage, bar coding; monitor stock to make sure that adequate amounts are available; assign floor team to tasks to make sure this goal is met; print and display POS signage and shelf tags; put away beer deliveries quickly; verify product to tag on shelf; monitor expiration dates – make sure first in, first out; update POS data in Vision as needed; perform inventory counts as requested; ensure that stock is shelved promptly
- Meet with vendors
- Place special orders
- Build, update, and restock displays Monitor the store to ensure it is clean and neat. Assign the floor team to tasks to make sure this goal is met. Monitor and manage beer breakage
- Conducts weekly beer-tasting
- Provides input for employee evaluations
- Watch for potential shoplifters
- Evaluate sales numbers weekly
- Attends Beer Team meetings
