What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical office staff position at Gastroenterology Consultants?

This is a small gastroenterology practice looking to fill a position for in-office staff. Since we are a small office, you will be expected to learn and help with a variety of medical office tasks such as (but not limited to) rooming patients and checking vitals, gathering and recording accurate medical histories, maintaining and sending medical records, scheduling, registering patients, assist in completing paperwork, answer phone calls, reviewing referrals and calling patients for a variety of reasons. You will be dependent upon to have reliable transportation and childcare and be present and punctual to scheduled shifts. This is a full-time position with a schedule of Monday through Thursday 8-5 and Friday 8-2.

About us: We have one doctor in the practice. He does procedures in the mornings at Grande Dunes Surgery Center or Grand Strand Hospital. He follows a plant-based diet and encourages it for many of our patients. He tries to avoid prescriptions where possible. We have patients in office on Monday Tuesday and Thursdays from 1-5 PM. The morning is spent checking eligibility details and preparing progress notes for afternoon patients.

Must be highly detail oriented and organized

Outgoing/Friendly

Have great customer service and communication skills both in-person and over the phone

Have a positive attitude

Great multi-tasker

Patient and understanding with a mostly elderly patient population

Special skills preferred:

Experience with eClinicalWorks.

This position is primarily the duties of a medical assistant. Prior experience is great.

Medical terminology and/or medical office experience- be comfortable reading writing and speaking gastro terms- colonoscopy, endoscopy, diarrhea, constipation, diverticulosis, diverticulitis

Prior authorization understanding and/or experience

Computer and typing experience

Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

Understanding of HIPAA requirements

Physical requirements:

You are expected to be able to sit, stand or walk throughout the day. Most time will be spent sitting and working on the computer. There is occasional light lifting involved.

Salary is negotiable and dependent on experience

Experience is preferred but not required. You must have the drive to study and research and put in the time to learn.

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
