Job Title: Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP)
Reports to: Director of Nursing, Director of ATS
SUMMARY
The Nurse Practitioner provides prescribed medical treatment and nursing care services to patients in an Acute Substance Abuse Treatment Program and Clinical Stabilization Unit. Be able to do Medical Assistance Treatment (MAT Certified)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team treating patients with acute substance abuse disorder
- Medically assesses and completes a medical/psychiatric history and physical examination on each patient within 48 hours of admission. Orders diagnostic studies, interprets results, and initiates therapy in accordance with program guidelines. Refers patients as appropriate to medical facilities for hospital admission
- Provides education to patients regarding health promotion, disease treatment and prevention
- Provides medication management and consultation when necessary
- Collaborates in team problem-solving and mutual support, with Staff Nurses, Case Managers, and Medical Directors
- Assists in the review of ongoing cases with a focus on medical issues and challenging addiction medication questions for patients followed by the treatment team
- Utilizes the EHR effectively and efficiently
- Observes patients and documents their responses to treatment
- Communicates with counseling staff on a regular basis regarding patient’s progress and treatment plans
- Carries out administrative procedures in compliance with program policies
- Serves as role model
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
While experience in addiction medicine is optimal, the greatest attributes we seek are a devotion to lifelong learning and evidence of an enduring ability to care for and enjoy working with our patient population
Preferred experience working with underserved populations; those suffering from with mental health issues; individuals experiencing homelessness and persons with substance use disorders
Excellent skill in implementing nursing protocol
Excellent patient assessment skills
Ability to work and communicate with others in a multidisciplinary setting
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Current license to practice nursing in advanced practice role in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- 2 years of experience, preferably in a detox setting.
- MAT Waiver completed and authorized to prescribe Suboxone
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid Massachusetts Nurse Practitioner license
- Current CPR Certification required
- MAT Waivered to prescribe Suboxone
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch and lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work environment is that of a detoxification facility serving persons with substance abuse disorders
- Exposure to clients infected with Hepatitis B, HIV, TB, or other Infectious Diseases
