The Application Engineering Technical Leader for Controls will own Inquiry To Order (ITO) activities for the Gas Power Services B/E/F/HA team, such as proposal assignments and review, technical deal direction, proposal generation and TAG development globally as well as drive consistent functional specifications and common global processes for project implementation. The AE TL has significant input into priorities, is guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role and has significant autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Leads with technical expertise and develops technical solutions (configuration, performance estimation, economics, etc.) in the area of Controls as part of the Inquiry To Order (ITO) process while working directly with the commercial and sales teams. 'ITO' for the Engineering team includes: Technical analysis of client need: definition and optimization of the products; scope (description); schedule; industrial scheme; cost, considering contract and internal policies and procedures.
- Possesses a strong understanding of relevant markets and customer economic value that aid winning bid strategies.
- Collaborates with design COE teams and Product Line to develop an understanding of plant, system and equipment performance and efficiency post-upgrade.
- Clearly documents technical specifications & costing elements for a CM&U upgrade as well as a level of customization of products for specific customer needs.
- Mentors and actively guides other AEs and helps the team grow in both technical depth and business acumen. Possesses and communicates a broad knowledge of own technical discipline to improve and grow as an AE. This role will include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills. Serves as best practice resource.
- Has in-depth knowledge of ITO best practices and how own technical area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
- Owns and assigns to other AEs relevant Technical Application Guidelines (TAG) to support accurate and timely proposal generation.
- Develops and maintains the Global TAG structure for Controls.
- Has a deep experience in GE Controls, e.g. OpFlex, HMI, Cyber, MkV/VI/VIe Controller Platforms and upgrades.
- Demonstrates high degree of understanding of key business drivers and how they are used to support proposal generation. Good understanding of how work inside the Applications team integrates with other teams in a matrixed organization and contributes to the needs of the business.
- Demonstrates autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework and lead other AE Individual Contributors.
- Resolves issues in situations that require deep technical knowledge and judgment within established ITO processes and procedures.
- Works with supporting teams, e.g. OTR, Design COEs, Controls PL, Controls NPI, CommOps, and Sales, for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters to build and influence winning solutions for our customers.
- Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information well and works to build consensus in the team, developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
- The AE TL is often required to explain technical information to internal and external customers. For customer facing activities, the AE TL develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college.
- Minimum 10 years experience in engineering or 8 years experience with a Master's degree in engineering.

- Experience and demonstrated success working in a global cross-functional environment.
- 13 years of Gas Turbine engineering experience.
- Master's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college.
- Located in Greenville or Atlanta, however, remote work is an option.
