Job Description SummaryAs a member of this world class team, the Lead Controls Designer will lead and execute the design of protection and control aspects of Flexible AC (Alternating Current) Transmission System (FACTS) projects. In this role, you will be responsible for the design documentation of the protection and control aspects of fixed series capacitors(FSC), static VAR compensation(SVC) and synchronous condenser (SC) solutions within GE’s Flexible AC Transmission Systems(FACTS) portfolio.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Design of custom protection and control solutions, including physical layouts, schematics, logic diagrams, wiring, grounding, and other required custom control hardware for custom FACTS solutions for orders and proposals.
- Develop Bills of Material for all designs, ensure consistency and quality throughout design documentation
- Contribute to continuous improvement of standard control documentation for FACTS equipment including protection and control systems.
- Coordinate with offshore design resources and the project team members on technical matters to meet project specifications, cost control and schedule objectives.
- Interface with internal and external team members such as principal engineers, control engineers, civil engineers, electrical designers, project managers, engineering leaders and support organizations.
- Facilitate the development and execute cost reduction programs that vary in scope and may include low-cost vendor selection, design improvements, process improvements, automation, and new product introduction.
- Excellent personal computer skills, including proficiency with Excel and Word, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
- Support project quality procedures and initiatives including aspects of ISO9001.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college; or an associates degree with 10 years of experience in the specific field of control design.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% as required, which may include remote locations and international travel, and be willing to comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies.
Desired Characteristics:
- Mechanical and Controls drawing experience
- Knowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, AUS, and NESC standards and codes, and ability to design packages when no clear customer specification is provided.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Demonstrated creativity and ability to lead amongst peers and be accountable for team results in order to deliver a high-quality product on time and under budget.
