Position Overview

Reporting to the FSQ Systems Manager, the FSQ Systems Specialist is responsible for the execution and technical support, effectiveness and continuous improvement of Gehl Foods’ Food Safety and Quality Management (FSQ) Systems and its processes, regulatory compliance (Federal, State, local and International), FSQ and Regulatory compliance aspects of the relationship with Suppliers and Customers assuring the manufacturing and trade of safe food and beverage products in conformance with customer requirements, and in compliance with domestic and international markets regulations including compliance with certifications (Organic, Non GMO, Kosher, Halal, etc.).

Job Responsibilities

1. FSQ Management System

  • Coordinate and support effectiveness and continuous improvement of the FSQ Management System across manufacturing, packaging, and supply chain operations.
  • Coordinate, execute and support common processes between the Food Safety and Quality Management Systems, i.e. Document Control, Record Control, Internal Audit, Continuous Improvement, etc.
  • Execute Internal Audit Program:
  • Scheduling and execution of assigned Food Safety and Quality Internal Audits.
  • Deliver FSQ Training program to all employees.
  • Support initiatives to obtain 3rd party certification of the FSQ Management System and upgrade its infrastructure and performance to enable Gehl Foods’ business growth and improvement needs.

2. Food Safety Components of the Management System

  • Member of cross-functional HACCP Teams.
  • Provide technical support and to FSQ Management and Operations Management in execution and continuous improvement of Sanitation and Allergen Controls.
  • Provide technical support within the HACCP, Pre-Requisite Programs and Preventive Controls, etc.
  • Facilitate and provide technical support to 2nd party and 3rd party GMP, Food Safety and Regulatory audits and inspections, responses and associated CAPAs and metrics.
  • Facilitate and provide technical support in GFSI certification audits, including associated CAPA reports.
  • Provide technical support for the Quality Management System.
  • Other Food Safety management related duties as assigned.

3. Continuous Improvement and FSQ Performance Metrics & Review

  • Support the Annual FSQ Goals, Objectives, and Initiatives.
  • Support the tracking, analysis, and communication of the FSQ performance metrics.
  • Support FSQ Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Other Continuous Improvement related duties as assigned.

4. Regulatory Management and Compliance – Domestic & International Markets

  • Support regulatory compliance with WDATCP and FDA, especially 21 CFR Part 113, 21 CFR Part 117 and Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO), ATCP 65 and ATCP 70, ensuring Gehl Foods’ operations, facilities, practices, and records meet requirements at all times.
  • Support regulatory compliance with USDA, including National Organic, Child Nutrition and export programs, ensuring Gehl Foods’ compliance at all times, including issuing Certificates of Conformance for dairy export.
  • Support routine communications, inspections, corrective actions and responses to regulatory entities i.e. FDA, WDATCP, etc.
  • Other regulatory compliance duties as assigned.

5. Customer FSQ Compliance

  • Support Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory aspects of the relationship with customers, by means of standardization, measurement, and engagement of the FSQ & Compliance team in leading the execution of:
  • Critical review and gap analysis of customer’s Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory requirements.
  • Customer Complaint Process and associated CAPAs.
  • Customer Audit Process and associated CAPAs.
  • Other customer compliance duties as assigned.

6. Other FSQ Systems & Regulatory Compliance Topics

  • Maintain compliance with Halal, Kosher, USDA, Identity Preservation Programs (RSPO, Organic, Non-GMO, etc).
  • Provide technical responses to customer and internal FSQ & Regulatory inquiries.
  • Other compliance topics as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Food Science, Engineering, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or other related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Quality Assurance and Food Safety within the food or beverage industries.
  • Experience in regulatory aspects of food or beverage manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with GFSI certification.
  • Ability to enforce Quality and Food Safety policies and procedures.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, Allergen Control and Sanitation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated people leadership, coaching and team building experience.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously, while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.
  • Ability and means to travel if needed; must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of valid insurance including liability and property damage coverage.
