What are the responsibilities and job description for the Government associate position at GEICO?
GEICO’s Government and Regulatory Affairs team is looking for experienced Government Relations individuals to join our team to advance the Company’s legislative and regulatory agenda.
The individuals will be responsible for relationships and interacting with key third parties, including public officials, industry associations and other non-governmental organizations in the Mid-Atlantic region .
These positions will involve domestic travel to effectively represent GEICO’s interests.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Maintain a strong network of key policymakers, including state legislators, heads of relevant executive agencies and their staff, industry members, policymakers (NAIC and NCOIL), and industry trade associations to efficiently and effectively advocate GEICO’s positions in assigned states.
- Position and leverage the company’s influence on key issues in individual states and relevant policymaking organizations, including NAIC and NCOIL.
- Quickly and accurately understand state legislative and regulatory proposals and their potential impacts to succinctly advise business.

- Maximize outside firms and association memberships to successfully advocate GEICO’s priorities.
- Develop and execute effective and efficient political contributions strategies in assigned states, in consultation with business, to enhance GEICO’s policy agenda.
Basic Qualifications :
- Minimum 5-7 years relevant government affairs experience with knowledge of insurance industry, specifically in the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Property / casualty insurance experience, including knowledge of auto insurance laws and regulations, a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with regulators and state legislators.
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills tailored to different audiences, including internal executive communications and external policymakers and regulators.
- Ability to articulate GEICO’s positions in an impactful and persuasive manner to decision makers and industry leaders and offer strategic advice to business professionals at every level of the organization regarding legislative and regulatory matters.
- Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse group of internal and external stakeholders to develop and effectively lobby GEICO’s position.
- Client-service oriented and enthusiasm for working in a team-oriented, dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision of day-to-day tasks while also appropriately identifying matters requiring escalation.
- Juris doctorate preferred but not mandatory.
Annual Salary
$132,000.00 - $230,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate / annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate.
Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
