Job Description
Since 1945, Geiger’s Long Valley Market in Laytonville, CA has been a centerpiece of the Mendocino County community. Offering a nose-to-tail butcher, Ace Hardware, full grocery, fresh produce and a full-service deli, we are a welcomed and frequent shopping destination for both local and visiting customers. Coming in 2022, we will expand to a new Hopland, CA location to become the only premier family market on Highway 101 both north and south in Mendocino County.
We are currently searching for a Deli Manager to join our team and help provide delicious, high-quality service and food for our customers in both our existing location (with a planned deli remodel) and our new presence in Hopland. The Deli Manager will help develop and run the deli at both locations to operate as a mutually-serviced and benefitted team.
This is a management position that will report to the General Manager for both the Laytonville and Hopland locations.
Responsibilities
The Deli Manager will ensure that all deli operations adhere to food safety protocols and are carried out efficiently. This includes our made-to-order sandwiches, grab ‘n go items, and hot prepared foods. The Deli Manager will:
- Order and manage inventory, backstock and outdated goods
- Standardize and document deli policies and procedures
- Develop and maintain breakfast, lunch and dinner menus
The Deli Manager will be an essential part of the management team, and contribute to the overall profitability of deli operations and development of employees. The Deli Manager will directly manage and support 5-8 team members engaged in deli service. These responsibilities include:
- Train and onboard new employees
- Assign duties and delegate work among team members
- Support employees by addressing concerns and giving them the tools to succeed
- Communicate well with team and store management. Foster healthy team morale and help resolve conflicts or complaints
- Evaluate employee performance and provide ongoing feedback; conduct annual reviews
- Provide direct deli service or perform clerical duties to assist during peak work periods

Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years minimum experience with deli, culinary or food service management in retail, hospitality, or other service-focused setting
- Demonstrated appreciation for high quality food and fresh ingredients
- Experience developing deli menus
- Knowledge of management practices and leadership skills; experience managing/supervising others
- Basic computer skills with Windows-based and touch screen programs
- Fluency in the English language; able to write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively in front of groups of customers or employees
- Ability to work mornings, evenings, or weekends in both Laytonville and Hopland
