What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Manager position at Geisinger?
- Assumes a leadership and planning role with regard to financial management within Geisinger.
- Ensures results are inline with business objectives, strategic initiatives, and operating budgets.
- Submits recommendations for improvements and changes as appropriate.
- Maintains active involvement in the facility capacity planning for the clinical enterprise.
- Provides consultative services for strategic growth initiatives for Clinical Service Line (CSL) development and continued support through data retrieval, analysis and interpretation, profitability analysis, development and tracking of metrics, budget development, and market data support.
- Communicates and consults with the Financial Director and CFO with regard to the overall financial condition and performance of assigned System Clinical Departments and Service Lines, and the development of operational plans which include a financial element.
- Advises CFO and management of Clinical Departments and Service Lines regarding new programs and financial issues in a consultative role, making recommendations about the financial implications of a decision.
- Utilizes Decision Support Services (DSS) for ad hoc requests on patient encounters, utilization, costing and analysis of new and existing programs based on a clinical and financial perspective.
- Supports DSS development of flex budgeting and patient reporting.
- Provides education to managers and physicians on utilization of DSS, development and cost assumptions, and RVUs.
- Manages the preparation of the annual budget process, long-range financial forecast and feasibility studies in conjunction with Service VPs, senior clinical and administrative leadership.
- Directs performance improvement initiatives within assigned clinical areas in regards to quality and margin improvement.
- Interacts with outside vendors developing appropriate contracts for maximizing profitability.
- Oversees financial pro formas to evaluate profitability of new programs and procedures.
- Coordinates new activity billing in conjunction with managers, physicians, and Revenue and Reimbursement staff.
- Manages the appropriate accounting of lease agreements, grant proposals, and fund accounting within assigned areas.
