What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fire Protection Systems Specialist position at Geisinger?
- Inspects, tests, maintains, and repairs fire protection systems including, but not limited to, the following (in compliance with applicable codes and standards): all automatic fire sprinkler systems (including wet, dry and pre-action systems), standpipe systems and hoses, fire pumps, exterior hydrants and post indicator valves, automatic foam systems, dry chemical systems, gaseous suppression systems and elevator fire recall systems.
- Monitors the performance of the fire alarm systems.
- Coordinates the periodic required testing and inspections of the fire alarm systems per applicable codes, whether performed by outside vendors or in-house personnel.
- Insures that established shutdown procedures are followed in conjunction with construction and maintenance activities when the fire alarm systems are affected by these activities.
- Documents and maintains records of inspection, tests and maintenance activities, noting deficiencies requiring correction and the interaction with the fire detection and alarm systems.
- Corrects deficiencies discovered during the aforementioned procedures immediately upon discovery, if possible.
- Promptly reports all deficiencies, that prevent or compromise proper systems operations and that cannot be immediately corrected, to leadership.
- Executes modifications and additions to the various fire protection systems as directed.
- Manages, bids and awards work to outside vendors performing modifications and additions to the various fire protection systems.
- Identifies and requisitions necessary materials and supplies required for the proper operation and maintenance of the various fire protection system.
- Manages Hot Work permit program.
- Conducts and assists management with safety training for Facilities employees (maintain firestopping FIT Level factory certification as a FIT Level instructor).
- Acts as the main interface and liaison for Fire and Life Safety inspections with property insurance carrier and other Authorities Having Jurisdiction (i.e. D.

- H., JCAHO, Fire Dept, Local Code Compliance, Factory Mutual, etc.).
- Identifies and makes proper notifications to responsible parties of any conditions that are unsafe or violate Life Safety, NFPA, L and I, OSHA or other applicable codes.
- Evaluates and recommends new products and procedures to enhance systems performance and reliability.
- Directs tradesmen in the performance of the fire damper, life safety inspection, and Building Maintenance Programs and correction of deficiencies as directed.
- Trouble-shoots and programs reports for Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
