- Assists the orthotist with the patient’s condition and in determining the needed treatment.
- Elicits the patient’s interpretation of the current situation and their expected outcome for the orthosis.
- Participates in the implementation of the treatment plan provided.
- Communicates with the prescribing physician to clarify the prescription and discusses other possible options.
- Uses the appropriate prefabricated orthosis that will fulfill the prescription and provide the desired outcome.
- Measures the patient.
- Fits the patient with the selected orthosis.
- Adjusts the prefabricated orthosis as necessary to achieve optimal fit and function according to the plan of care formulated.
- Provides instruction to the patient and family on proper use and care of the prefabricated orthosis.
- Provides appropriate follow-up care after fitting, including adjustments and repairs.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and adjusts prefabricated orthoses.
