Summary
GeneDx is seeking a web developer to work with a multidisciplinary team developing internal-facing web applications for the analysis of clinical genomic sequencing data. Your customers will be our scientific and clinical staff, and you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects from workflow management, to developing APIs and reports, to creating graphical data displays and new tools for filtering and searching very large datasets. You will propose solutions for feature implementation and encourage the adoption of standard coding tools and practices across applications. You will take time for team-based code review as well as helping to mentor junior developers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Work closely with lead engineers and fellow developers across multiple applications
- Participate in the design and implementation of web interfaces and APIs used for data analysis/processing and workflow management
- Mentor junior developers in feature implementation and good development practices
- Conduct testing and validation of new features
- Assist with monitoring and troubleshooting deployed applications
- Review user feedback to identify application needs and propose improvements

Qualifications

- At least 2 years of professional experience as full-stack web developer
- Demonstrated experience with one or more web frameworks (Django or Flask preferred)
- Demonstrated experience with Javascript
- Demonstrated experience hand-coding websites with HTML5/CSS and industry tools like Bootstrap and SASS
- Demonstrated experience with one or more major programming languages (Python, Javascript, etc)
- Demonstrated experience with RESTful or GraphQL API design
- Familiarity with Linux and basic shell commands
- Familiarity with code versioning principles and tools such as git
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks such as Selenium, Python unittest/pytest, etc
- Willingness to dive in and learn existing software code and user workflows
- Excellent communication skills and a team attitude
Additional preferred skills
- Experience with software and project tracking tools such as GitHub or JIRA
- Experience with JavaScript testing tools
- Experience with Django Rest Framework/Graphene GraphQL
