What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal/ Senior Principal Scientist, Computational Chemistry position at Genentech?
Genentech seeks a computational chemist with strong experience in structure-based drug design, ligand-based design, and cheminformatics to join our Computer-Assisted Drug Discovery group in the Discovery Chemistry Department. You will be an integral member of interdisciplinary drug discovery project teams, where you will apply computational chemistry, cheminformatics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to help drive lead discovery, optimization, and development. You will also be involved in helping to improve our “best of breed” combination of computational chemistry and cheminformatics software applications and workflows. You will work closely with our Structural Biology, High Throughput Screening, DMPK, Safety/Investigational Toxicity, and other groups.
You will have access to state of the art modeling, simulation, and machine learning technologies as well as computing infrastructure, and be able to leverage rich collections of data to accelerate drug discovery in a fast-paced and creative environment. Based at our beautiful South San Francisco campus, you will join our computational chemists, cheminformaticians, and software engineers who are committed to discovering new medicines to address unmet medical needs. Who You Are
Ph.D. or equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or other related disciplines
Significant experience in computational chemistry, structure and ligand based design, modeling, and experience of designing molecules together with synthetic chemists is required
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in teams
Self-sufficient in scientific scripting and programming (e.g. Python)
Practical, working experience with computational chemistry software from companies such as Chemical Computing Group, Dotmatics, Schrodinger, OpenEye, and Gaussian
Knowledge of multivariate statistics, machine learning, deep learning approaches is desirable;
5 years of Industry experience in small molecule drug discovery is advantageous

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $144,340 and $268,060. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
