The SSN(X) program is seeking motivated engineers to develop solutions to increase Operational Availability (Ao) of the next submarine propulsion plant. Successful candidates will integrate with the engineering and design team to ensure Ao is addressed in all applicable aspects of the design.
Responsibilities of the successful applicants include:
- Working with all engineering disciplines to develop solutions to maximize Ao
- Collaborating with maintenance facilities to identify, understand, and develop workable solutions to problems impacting submarine availability
- Evaluating design options from an operational and Ao perspective
Required:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, marine, nuclear engineering or equivalent engineering degree is required
Internal candidate must be from organizations outside of operations (Gildart/Gabriel)
Preferred:
- Experience working on propulsion systems, components, arrangements, or prior Navy experience is preferred.
Skills:
- The candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
- Candidate must be detail oriented, highly motivated, be able to work independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in an engineering environment.
- Previous experience with fluid system, component or structural design, as well as US Navy nuclear qualification is preferred.
