Job Description GM is seeking a skilled Analytical Scientist to join Chemistry Platform and Electrode Integration team. The candidate should be committed, dedicated, responsible, focused, detail-oriented, able to adjust in a fast-paced working environment, collaborate well with other staff members with a shared vision and demonstrate excellent organizational communication skills. This candidate will serve as an internal expert on materials and electrode characterization techniques, lead test method characterization and validation activities, and procure analytical equipment as and when needed. This candidate will be responsible for physical and chemical analysis, and thermal properties of all battery materials and understand their interactions with each other. In this position you will be a fully-qualified contributor who has thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the department. You will possess a broad technical knowledge, training and understanding combined with creative and independent thinking and conceptual ability to related work performed within their department. Promotes GM's values and makes customer-focused decisions. This position requires sound technical knowledge and expertise related to the functional area of responsibility. You will need prior experience and/or knowledge of mechanical, instrumentation, electronics, testing/driving and fabrication. Translates business objectives to actionable work for the work group. Supports leading new processes and methods in line with departmental goals. Serve as an internal expert on materials characterization techniques Lead testing method characterization and validation activities Procure analytical equipment as and when needed Analysis of chemical, physical, and thermal properties of all battery materials and understand their interactions with each other Performs critical interpretation of analytical data; analyzes information to drive mechanistic understanding Ability to work independently in experimental design to resolve technical issues Be able to work in a team environment and provide expertise to the team effort Performs critical interpretation of analytical data; analyzes information to drive mechanistic understanding. Develop a fundamental mechanistic understanding of electrode characteristics related to performance Be able to work in a team environment and provide expertise to the team effort. Communicate new concepts and draw insight from discussions with coworkers. Perform and/or share expertise and hands-on experience in operating and maintaining analytical instruments including but not limited to GC, FTIR, UV-Vis, DSC, TGA, SEM, EDAX, ICP, XPS, Raman, IC, BET, PSA, EPMA, conductivity, and other electrode characterization techniques Ability to analyze data and draw deeper conclusions from analytical data to drive faster turnaround times Additional Job Description Required Skills: Bachelor degree, chemical engineering, materials science, or related fields with 8 years of industrial/academic experience related to ion Li battery analysis Experience in electrochemistry, specifically on lithium-ion batteries and related material and electrode characterization Expertise and hands-on experience in operating and maintaining analytical instruments including but not limited to GC, FTIR, UV-Vis, DSC, TGA, SEM, EDAX, XPS, Raman, IC, BET, PSA, EPMA, conductivity, and other electrode characterization techniques Ability to analyze data and draw deeper conclusions from analytical data to drive faster turnaround times Demonstrable track record of learning new technologies quickly and using your skillset to have a tangible impact in a short time frame Ability to onboard and integrate existing in-house knowledge with new discoveries and challenges being tackled in developing high-energy cells Ability to identify and execute testing metrics to shorten the cycle of learning Experience working with moisture sensitive materials in a glovebox or dry room Preferred Skills: PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related fields with 10 years of industrial/academic experience related to ion Li battery analysis Experience in electrochemistry, specifically on lithium-ion batteries and related material and electrode characterization About GM Our vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and we embrace the responsibility to lead the change that will make our world better, safer and more equitable for all.
