Our diverse team of Manufacturing Engineers play a crucial role in transforming our facilities through implementing the adoption of ground-breaking technologies. From raw sheet metal to final assembly, this team is reinventing the tools and processes that will enable GM to deliver on our promise to create an all-electric future. Hybrid: Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time, but the general expectation is that the employee be onsite an average of three (3) days each week. The Role: The position will be based at the GM Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan. As a Paint Shop Process Specialist, you will support our Paint Shops in our automotive assembly plants. You will be involved with working to integrate existing and new technology into our facilities to support productivity and quality initiatives. Often you will work with the process teams in the plants and suppliers in the development and continuous improvement of these processes. There will be times when you will have to work a plant shutdown and come in on weekends. What You'll Do (Responsibilities): Collaborate and develop playbook and launch schedule. When launching a product in a paint shop or after a major equipment replacement the playbook is the guide that defines the steps and the validations, the Paint Process Specialist ensures that the equipment is both capable and meets the product requirements. Tuning in the systems to achieve usage and cycle time for new vehicle launches and major equipment installations. Act as launch coordinator for major conversions in the assembly plants Assist in troubleshooting major issues and support controls groups Lead coordination of data collection, practical problem solving, engaging the right resources, “one voice” communication that identifies the root cause Most of the projects are long-term running from a month or two or up to 8 months. Additional Job Description Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications): Minimum 3 years' experience specifying, commissioning or operating paint shop equipment and systems. Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent plant/paint experience Understanding of the entire paint process including PT/ED (pretreatment/Elpo), sealing, primer, and topcoat. You must have demonstrated the ability to work independently or with others as a member of a team. Ideally you would have some project management skills for planning and executing a project. Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments with medium level of autonomy and high accountability for results. Demonstrate solid organization, planning and problem-solving skills. Ability to travel around 30% locally and around North America. Ability to work OT and off-shift on an as needed basis. What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications): 3 years' experience specifying, commissioning or operating paint shop equipment systems. Experience working with automation cells and/or robots. Ability to troubleshoot processes as well as root cause identification of equipment failures. Background in controls engineering.
