Job Description

GM is redefining the way we compete in the constantly evolving transportation market by applying the principles and practices described in the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). The Validation team is seeking energetic, innovative individuals to join our team of change agents, SAFe Program Consultants (SPCs), to help transform how we validate our customer products!

As an SPC this individual will be trained and certified following the courses outlined by Scaled Agile, Inc. Combining their knowledge of SAFe with technical engineering skills the SPC will train, coach, and mentor others at GM on how to apply Lean-Agile methods, DevOps, and Systems Thinking to improve the way GM designs, builds, tests, and deploys products to market. The SPC will host workshops, facilitate discussions, help Agile teams plan incrementally, and iterate their plans, leading by example as Validation transforms to this new framework.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the learning and adoption of Agile methods and practices by individuals and teams as they gain insights and experience with Agile concepts.
  • Conducts training needs assessments to understand characteristics and skill level of learners, the job setting, and to identify the processes and tasks performed by system users.
  • Determines appropriate instructional strategy based on results of needs assessment. Develops in-house training where needed.
  • Designs new or modifies existing instructional materials for multiple training modalities including traditional instructor-led classes, web-based/virtual classes, and job-aids.
  • Conducts traditional classroom or web-based training sessions, using effective presentation skills, verbal communication skills, and classroom management skills.
  • Launches, stabilizes, and optimizes new agile teams and release trains.
  • Coaches and demonstrates the facilitation of core agile practices including but not limited to: (Kanba, Agile ceremonies, Iteration/sprint planning, Release planning (Program Increment), Story writing and grooming, Story distribution practices including estimation, and Metrics)
  • Creates an environment of collaboration and open dialogue within General Motors teams to facilitate productive conflict resolution.
  • Supports enterprise scalability through mentor and standardization through the portfolio level of SAFe, including oversight and consult upon establishing a Lean Portfolio management operating model in SAFe.
  • Promotes work management standards through mentoring to ensure consistency across the organization.
  • Removes impediments to team progress whether internal to the team or organizational in nature. When necessary, reports impediments to facilitate rapid resolution.
  • Supports, coaches and educates product management and business owners, especially with respect to refining and managing the product backlog and decision-making.

Additional Job Description

REQUIREMENTS
  • 3 years of professional experience (not including co-op and internship)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering), Computer Science, or Information Technology
  • SAFe SPC certification
  • Possesses continuous-learning demeanor and willingness to deliver ad hoc training
  • Knowledge of and experience with the application of agile values, principles, and practices; including SAFe, Scrum, and Kanban.
  • Excellent track record of working with applying agile collaboration tools.
PREFERRED SKILLS
  • 5 years of professional experience (not including co-op and internship)
  • Experience in instructing or delivering SAFe certified courses and workshops and coaching people across teams
  • Lean, Agile, or Six Sigma certifications.
  • Experience working on large-scale transformation programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence change at the leadership level and team level.
  • Self-regulated, able to work with multiple personality types to keep teams focused on delivery, while remaining neutral under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; clear, tactful, and constructive
  • Effective presentation, interpersonal and classroom management skills.
  • Strong time management skills with flexibility, versatility, dependability
  • Must be highly organized. Ability to prioritize and complete tasks with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to create and maintain relationships with a wide range of partners throughout the enterprise.

Hybrid:This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee'srole enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be on-siteevery other week.
