Job Description

You will be responsible for equipment related to the manufacturing process. In this position your use of independent discernment required. You will use substantial independent judgment in complex or unusual situations. Your responsibility may involve training others and assigning work to a small group of employees.

In this role your work will be of a technical nature with decisions made within the limits of general practices, policies and standards. Your work will involve complex manufacturing problems including the need to troubleshoot and follow issues to resolve.

Supervisor - Process Engineering

Lead engineer for a group of process engineers responsible for developing manufacturing processes, equipment/tooling alternatives, sequence and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities necessary for the production of castings. Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or foundry plant activity where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.

Responsible for:
  • Manage day to day activities of a team of process engineers, including setting objectives, managing results, and evaluating/coaching individual performance
  • Perform casting manufacturing projects by following a systematic engineering process of evaluation, development, validation, and technology transfer to manufacturing
  • Lead the development and implementation of program specific manufacturing processes
  • Support Launch Wall process - through Manufacturing Validation Build Plan & PPAP
  • Interface with plant site personnel, Central ME personnel, and select Product Engineers on new programs/projects
  • Analyze first time quality data and optimize processes using statistical tools such as Red X and Design of Experiments
  • Develop process documentation for new products/processes including: Process Flow Diagram, Process Control Plan and Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis
  • Oversee and help coordinate PPAP and GP-12 activities
  • Develop Product Quality Standards, Task Instruction Sheets, Safe Job Procedures and Audit Sheets for new products
  • Providing technical direction to less experienced process engineers
  • Support Business Plan Deployment (BPD) initiatives and coordinate engineering activities to achieve Business Plan objectives

  • Stay abreast of new casting technologies being developed
  • Interface with plant site personnel in supporting Continuous Improvement projects at the plant to improve plant metrics in the Safety, People,Quality, Reliability, Cost (SPQRC) arena.

Qualifications

Basic required:
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a group of technical professionals
  • Strong technical knowledge and ability in process engineering disciplines
  • Precision Sand and/or Semi-Permanent Mold Casting or similar casting experience - preferred experience in Process Engineering, Quality, Tooling & New Part Development
  • Demonstrates excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of foundry processes and ability to apply these concepts within a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and difficult projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results
  • Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others
  • Proven ability in project management skills and ability to teach others
  • Effective working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Word
  • Effective in using Design of Experiments and Red X problem solving techniques
  • Strong knowledge and ability to implement Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS)principles
  • Demonstrated basic understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine designs, process requirements involved in the manufacturing process.

Basic Preferred:
  • Training in aluminum metallurgy preferred
  • Proficient in using Q-Stat, Stature and Vismock-up or UG
  • Functional knowledge of Magma, Flow-3D and Arena Flow software
Education and Training:
  • Bachelor degree (Engineering preferred) or equivalent experience
