KITCHEN AIDE

General Statement of Duties

Performs variety of assistance duties involved in nutrition program in the intergenerational program.

Distinguishing Features of the Class

An employee in this class assists clients in the Intergenerational Program and prepares breakfast and snacks and assists in lunch. Work includes completing logs and documentation in the chart. Work requires judgment and initiative as well as tact and diplomacy in dealing with clients’ and families. Duties may expose the employee to human body fluids and thus The work is subject to the OSHA requirements for bloodborne pathogens. Work is supervised by the Adult Day/Health Program Director and is reviewed through conferences, review of records and reports, observation, and feedback from clients and families served.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Tasks

Prepares breakfast, prepares snacks following snack schedule, and sets up for lunch.
Interacts with family when they bring clients to and pick up from the center; provides an outlet and listens to concerns and problems they are encountering and shares information on client, their progress and try to see how they can help; share continuing concerns and problems with the supervisor.

Assists clients with personal needs such as cutting up food and feeding.

Responsible for CACFP attendance counts, meal counts, monitoring and ordering supplies and assisting with breakfast, lunch and snack, as needed.

Attends required training courses and workshops.

Performs housekeeping duties in the kitchen area and as directed.

Working knowledge of and ability to operate a computer.
Skills in performing personal hygiene and related health care assistance tasks.
Skills in listening and interacting with family and other caregivers and providing a support base.
Ability to read and write.
Ability to communicate effectively with clients and families.
Ability to maintain and develop effective working relationships with clients, families, supervisor, coworkers, and the general public.
Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and reports.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, and hearing.
Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to make visual inspections of center conditions and to assure conditions are safe and orderly, to operate a computer, to read extensively, and to assemble parts such as crafts, etc. close to the eyes.

Desirable Education and Experience
Graduation from high school and some experience in working with older adults with physical and mental problems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
Willingness and ability to successfully complete the required training for State certification for Nursing Assistant I within six months, to successfully complete CPR and
First Aid training, and to successfully complete on-going in-service training.
Willingness and ability to successfully complete required certification by the State in developmental disabilities.
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
