SUMMARY:
Genesee & Wyoming ("G&W"), a growing short line railroad operator with a broad North American and UK/European footprint, is seeking a Property Tax Billing Assistant to work within the Tax Department in a newly formed function to improve the efficiency and processes of the company's centrally assessed U.S. property taxes.
This newly created position will in tandem with the Senior Property Tax Accountant take ownership of G&W's property tax activities within G&W's U.S. footprint. The primary focus of the Property Tax Administrator will be the administration of the property tax billing software and the payment and remittance of all real and personal property tax bills timely to avoid penalties and interest. This position will assist with the preparation of all property tax returns including centrally assessed returns. The ideal candidate will gain vast company exposure in this role and should be motivated to harness that exposure to promote career growth within the company.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* The payment and remittance of all real and personal property tax payments.
* Maintain property tax software including billing and compliance modules.
* Research and resolve property tax notices related to property tax payments.
* Assist with the preparation and timely filing of property tax returns.
* Assist with the processing and filing of U.S. federal and state income and franchise tax returns during busy season.
* Assist with special projects within the tax department.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
* Highly motivated individual capable of managing multiple tasks and continuously evaluating priorities to lead tasks/projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong communication skills, both verbally and written.
* Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully, and develop alternative solutions.
* Ability to build trust by treating customers, peers, and others with integrity and respect, upholding organizational values, and keeping commitments.
* Ability and desire to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment with all levels of staff including senior management, department heads, and external parties; contribute to building a positive team spirit; ability to support everyone's efforts to succeed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:
* 1-5 years of relevant accounting experience
* Degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is a plus
* Proficiency with computers and office systems including Microsoft Office
