Role Overview:
This position will be responsible for overseeing the Field Searcher Team to meet daily production goals as it relates to oocytes processing and grading. This individual will serve as the day-to-day mentor and trainer of processes as it relates to filtering follicular fluid, classifying oocyte health, and promoting successful embryo production through standard operating procedures. Other responsibilities include coordinating schedules, as well as evaluation and discussion of key performance indicators of each of team member to further foster team success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare personal workspace, personal stereo-microscope and incubator to ensure accurate assessment and safe transportation of oocytes.
  • Receive and properly store OPU tubes containing aspirated oocytes from Reproduction Specialist (OPU).
  • Filter follicular fluid and rinse oocytes with washing medium protocols.
  • Classify oocytes and document quantity per classification protocols.
  • Evaluate quality of oocytes under a microscope, discard non viable structures using pipette.
  • Manage time to ensure timely processing of received oocytes.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation of required data while processing aspirated oocytes for each donor.
  • Prepare transportation tubes with maturation medium, aerate with mixed gas solution, seal and house in incubator.
  • Coordinate supply of required materials to ensure availability to materials based on production forecasts.
  • Actively participate in testing and process improvement initiatives.
  • Seek continuous improvement to further perfect skills and decision-making required during evaluation and categorization of oocyte health.
  • Follow established safety regulations.
  • Responsible for personal transportation to work-site often in rural areas.
  • Ensure production is running smoothly including delegating responsibilities and assigning daily duties, escalating issues team is unable to resolve, following up on problems to ensure tasks are managed to conclusion.
  • Monitor quality and address issues within scope of ability; conduct regular evaluation of key performance indicators and work with team to promote regular success.
  • Support formal and informal training programs including new hire training and advanced technical training.
    • Identify individual training needs and recommend team members for additional training.
    • Provide on-the-job coaching and training to promptly address areas of technical challenge.
  • Work closely with Senior Embryologist and OPU Supervisor to ensure continuity across IVF production processes.
  • Provide daily and weekly shift reports to Senior Embryologist and OPU Supervisor.
  • Support team in regular checks of equipment and report equipment I need of repair.
  • Be the health and safety champion for the team and promote a culture of health and safety by ensuring all employees following company biosecurity policies.
  • Ensure technician incidents are reported within 24 hours.
  • Be a champion of change and quality for the team.
  • Lead team meetings, present relevant updates.
  • Other production projects and duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous course work within laboratory environment preferred.
  • Previous experiences using pipettes and microscope preferred.
  • Experience in a laboratory or equivalent production environment preferred
  • Previous experience working in farm environment preferred.
  • Ability to work varied shifts including holidays depending on production demand.
  • Ability to follow detailed safety protocols as required during daily exposure to needles or other sharp objects, as well as, bodily fluids of beef and dairy cattle.
  • Team-centric, detail-orientated, and highly organized.
  • Solution-driven and determined to achieve production goals.
  • Exceptional follow-through consistently demonstrating ability to organize and prioritize work for timely completion.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to interact with diverse cultures.
  • Ability to speak English required, bilingual (English/Portuguese) beneficial.
  • Limited use and/or application of basic science principles, theories and concepts.
  • Limited knowledge of industry practices and standards.
  • Ability to work under close supervision from Senior team members.
  • Work is routinely reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy
